American Energy Alliance (AEA) is a 501(c)(4) affiliate of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Institute for Energy Research (IER).[1][2] AEA is based in Washington, D.C. and aims to support the work of its affiliate, IER, by helping energy consumers through grassroots advocacy, education, outreach and encouragement of free market policies in energy production.[2]

According to its website, American Energy Alliance's mission consists of the following:[2]

to enlist and empower energy consumers to encourage policymakers to support free market policies. These policies lead to abundant, affordable, and reliable energy for all Americans.[3]

Background

American Energy Alliance was founded in May 2008 by the Institute for Energy Research, and according to its website, acts as IER's "advocacy arm."[4] AEA aims to help energy consumers and lawmakers through educational outreach, and has eight featured initiatives that it works on:[5]

  • Support the Keystone Pipeline- AEA educates consumers about the Keystone XL Pipeline project.
  • Products and Power- AEA educates consumers about the importance of domestic energy production and the effects of various regulations.
  • End the Wind PTC- AEA educates consumers about the Wind Production Tax Credit (PTC) and its effects on electricity costs.
  • Ozone Rule- AEA educates consumers about the Environmental Protection Agency's ozone regulations.
