I was raised in the rural farming community of Union Ridge in northern Alamance County and graduated from Western Alamance High School. I graduated from UNC-CH and the University of North Carolina School of Law. I married an Air Force pilot and moved away. When he left active duty, we moved to Mt. Pleasant, SC, where we lived for about 10 years. When my Uncle Lud Scott died, we bought from his estate the property that had been my grandparents'. Concerned about the growth in Alamance County, I ran for county commissioner in 2016. I served for 4 years, 3 of those as Chair. My husband and I have three children who all graduated from ABSS.
  • Good economy, fight inflation and keep taxes low, economic development
  • Protect peoples' lives and property-- low crime, safe homes and neighborhoods-- support law enforcement
  • Quality education-- have qualified workers ready to fill all the jobs that we have created-- workforce development. Includes school choice-- nobody should be shut out of the school that is best for their child because they can't afford it
I am passionate about workforce development, connecting all the dots between quality education, good jobs, and healthy families. I supported the Medicaid expansion bill that was proposed in the Senate this year (2021) because it increased access and addressed rising costs. The bill included desperately needed certificate of need (CON) reform and scope of practice reform, allowed for telehealth, and increased transparency.

Parents should be viewed as a valued partner in our public school system, not as an impediment or inconvenience. School choice is a critical part of an overall education system that meets the needs of individual children. Not every school is a good fit for every child, and family income should not be the primary determinant of whether a child can attend the school that is right for him/her.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in North Carolina

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
