My name is Amy Johnson, and I am proud to serve as your Undersheriff in Kane County. I have dedicated over 20 years protecting the people of this community because it was my calling.

I began my career at the Kane County Sheriff’s Office in 2003 as an Intern and then moved into being an Evidence Custodian. I didn’t start at the top, I earned every step. I became a Deputy, a Detective, a Major Crimes supervisor, Chief of Staff, and now Undersheriff. That journey has given me firsthand experience of the office and a deep understanding of what it takes to lead.

I grew up here. I went to school here, both public and private, and I raised my family here with my husband and our three children. Kane County is not just where I work. It is my home.

Throughout my career, I have led major investigations, managed operations, supported deputies in the field, and helped guide the Sheriff’s Office through complex challenges. I have also taught future criminal justice professionals as an adjunct professor, helping shape the next generation of public safety leaders.

I am running for Sheriff because I believe leadership matters. Experience matters. Integrity matters. This office requires someone who understands the responsibility, has earned the trust of the community, and is ready to lead on day one.

I am not running to learn the job. I am running because I am prepared to lead and to continue serving the people of Kane County with honesty, professionalism, and dedication.
  • Proven Experience and Leadership: I have over 20 years of service in the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and currently serve as Undersheriff. I have worked in almost every level of the organization and have the experience to lead effectively on day one.
  • Ready to Lead the Sheriff’s Office Forward: I bring steady, professional leadership focused on public safety, supporting deputies, fiscal responsibility, and maintaining the trust and safety of our community.
  • Committed to protecting taxpayers by using resources efficiently and avoiding unnecessary spending and focused on maintaining proper staffing levels to reduce costly overtime and improve operational efficiency.
I am personally passionate about public safety policy that strengthens communities while maintaining accountability, transparency, and fiscal responsibility.

I am deeply committed to policies that support law enforcement professionalism ensuring deputies receive proper training, resources, and leadership so they can serve effectively and ethically.

I am also passionate about mental health and crisis response. Law enforcement is often the first point of contact for individuals in crisis, and I believe in strengthening partnerships, diversion programs, and training to ensure the right response at the right time.

I care strongly about victim advocacy and domestic violence response. Protecting vulnerable individuals and victims have support.
