- Working as an advocate for children in the foster care system, as a high dosage tutor, and with the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council allowed me a glimpse into the poverty, instability and disparity many families in our county are facing. I felt compelled to do more so the children in Guilford County have a fighting chance for a positive and productive future. We must ensure stability - by fully funding schools, creating safe and attainable housing and communities and creating job opportunities. Our workforce must be the most well trained in the state. I'll work for everyone across the county to ensure the children, who are our future, have the opportunity to thrive.
- As Guilford County grows, being a place where people want to live, work and send their children to school is critical. Public schools must be fully funded and teachers and staff paid competitively. Schools need to stand out, not be at the bottom of the list. We have to attract the best teachers and create a workforce from within. Companies who are coming into our region should be working to show children early on the opportunities that await and training for highly skilled jobs should start early. Kids can be what they can see - they need exposure to possibilities. Our workforce development should be the best in the country and Guilford County, in the heart of the state of NC should be the most desirable place to live and work.
- Housing is one of the most, if not THE most critical pieces for stability, which leads to bright futures. Without a roof over your head, a safe place to call home - an address - none of the other systems, no other parts of life - can be taken full advantage of. Creating affordable housing and opportunities for people to own homes must be expanded. That will take people from all aspects of housing - builders, small business owners, contractors, input from the community, the government - will all have to collaborate to ensure lasting effects decades down the road. I bring an understanding of the power of collaboration and consensus. I'll ensure all voices are represented as we take on the challenge of having enough housing for all.
