I am a parent and an educator who, along with my husband, has had the amazing privilege to raise our family in Dublin and the Dublin City School District. I am seeking a position on the school board in order to ensure that Dublin City Schools remains a top-tier school district in the nation. I look forward to being able to bring the perspective of the teacher into the decision making process, while at the same time keeping what is best for students as top priority in every school board decision.

I have been a government teacher in Hilliard City Schools for twenty-three years; teaching Advanced Placement US Government and Politics, US Government, and Political Science 200 through a dual enrollment program with Kenyon College.

I hold a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton, and am currently working towards a Masters in American History and Government at Ashland University. My passion is teaching government to foster civic knowledge and citizenship skills in our future generations. I am excited to be a public servant on the school board as a further extension of my civic duty as a citizen.
  • Student first approach to decision-making. Making sure that all decisions take into account the impact on all students that the district represents.
  • Create an atmosphere of cooperation between the classroom teacher and the parents//guardians of each student.
  • Teacher led, student centered classrooms where all students have a sense of belonging, feel safe, and can reach their full potential.
Maintain rigorous curriculum that prepares our students for the careers of tomorrow.

Provide teachers with time, training, and resources to learn and implement best practices in the classroom.

Foster an atmosphere of partnership between teachers and parents to provide the highest level of education and care for all students.

Increase awareness and partnerships of alternative post high school graduate programs, such as apprenticeships and licensure programs.

Continue support for our LGBTQ+ students so they feel safe and can come to school to learn while being who they are.

Continue diversity, equity, and inclusion instruction for teachers to ensure all students have access to the great education of Dublin City Schools.

Continue and expand social-emotional health programs so students are able to access mental health resources and learn more about taking care of their mental health.

Use research based safety protocols to maintain the safety of our students.
Honesty, clarity, and the ability to listen are characteristics that are important for an elected official. Constituents must be able to trust their elected officials that they are speaking the truth and when making policies they are honest about why they are making their decisions. Constituents should also know where a politician stands on issues, and the official should be able to explain their stance using factual data-based evidence to support any decision they make. Listening to constituent input to inform decisions allows for an elected official to insure they are doing what is in the best interest of the community, and the students.
The Challenger Explosion is the first historical event that I vividly remember. I was in fifth grade, and like most school children that day, watching with my classmates during the school day. It was a frightening experience, as we had been preparing for weeks for this amazing event, and then when the shuttle exploded, we were confused and scared. At that time, we were able to look to our teacher for support, care, and calm. I will never forget my teacher and her actions that day to help us process what we had just seen. Since becoming a teacher myself, I now understand how she must have also been quite upset and confused, but able to push that aside to take care of our needs. I take inspiration from her and when I was teaching on Sept. 11th, 2001, I hope I was able to provide a similar sense of calm and comfort for my students.
Currently there is board policy for technical school that is detailed, while other forms of alternative education programs are vague in policy language and with no mention of apprenticeships. I would like to amend this policy to include apprenticeships in trades, as well as have language for community partnerships so students can go into full-time employment upon graduation. This will allow students to explore career options and begin their transition from school to the workforce. Many students that would benefit are unaware of these options and these options should have the same regard as college as a post-secondary option

My ideal learning environment starts with the basics of every child that enters the door knowing they are cared for, they belong, and they are safe. All backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, genders are equally accepted in the classroom and everyone is important to the school community. Once this has been truly established, learning can begin. Curriculum with high standards that also allows for individual support so all students are able to achieve to the best of their ability. Diverse curriculum bringing in a multi-cultural lens so that all students can see themselves and their families in the lessons. Making those personal / emotional connection to curriculum enables students to better retain their knowledge, and is vital to student achievement.
I would like to see a more diverse workforce within Dublin schools. Students should be able to see themselves represented in the teaching and staff of the school. Studies have shown that having a diverse teaching staff increases the learning for all students, not just minority students, in a school. It also leads to greater empathy and understanding of others. To do this I would like Dublin Schools to make a concerted effort to recruit teachers from HBCUs, such as Central State, and other more diverse colleges and universities. We need to reach out to them so they know they are wanted in our district and that we will view them as an asset in being able to teach our diverse student population.
