Amy Parks served as acting Nevada Commissioner of Insurance, from July 7, 2015, until February 19, 2016. Parks was serving as Division of Insurance's chief counsel at the time when she was tapped as acting commissioner following the resignation of Scott Kipper, who resigned on July 2, 2015, for undisclosed reasons.[1] She remained acting commissioner until Kipper's permanent replacement, Barbara Richardson was selected.[2]

Parks had previously served as acting commissioner from August 12, 2011 to October 24, 2011, following the resignation of Commissioner Brett Barratt.[3][4][5]

Parks was educated in Nevada and Oregon. In 1997, she became a member of the Nevada State Bar. She has worked in top positions at the Nevada Department of Insurance since August 2004, when she began serving as insurance counsel and hearing officer. In the Spring of 2009, Parks became chief insurance counsel at the Department of Insurance.[1]

Political career

Acting Nevada Commissioner of Insurance (2011, 2015-2016)

Parks was first appointed acting commissioner in 2011, after the resignation of Brett Barratt. She served in the post briefly, until Scott Kipper was appointed as Barratt's permanent replacement. Parks then resumed her duties as chief insurance counsel for the Department of Insurance. After Kipper resigned in 2015, Parks was reappointed acting commissioner until Barbara Richardson was appointed. Parks then resumed her duties as chief insurance counsel for the Nevada Division of Insurance.[1][2]

The Nevada Commissioner of Insurance is an appointed state executive position in the Nevada state government.

The commissioner oversees the Division of Insurance, which is under the Department of Business and Industry. The stated mission of the insurance division is "To protect the rights of Nevada consumers in their experiences with the insurance industry and to ensure the financial solvency of insurers."[6]
