An effort to recall Ward 3 City Commissioner Andrea Burney did not go to a vote in Bay City, Michigan.[1]
Recall supporters
Kimberly Dukarski filed the recall petition. The reason Dukarski gave for the recall petition was Burney's conviction of misdemeanor domestic violence in December of 2023. Burney has appealed the conviction.[1]
Recall opponents
Burney did not respond to a request for comment from MLive.[1]

No specific grounds are required for recall in Michigan. To get a recall on the ballot in Michigan, recall supporters must collect signatures equal in number to 25% of voters in the jurisdiction in the last gubernatorial election. They have 60 days between the collection of the first signature and the collection of the last signature on the petition. Recall petitions are eligible to collect signatures for 180 days.[2][3][4]
Dukarski filed the recall petition on May 7, 2024. The Bay County Election Commission approved it on May 24, 2024. Burney filed an appeal, which was denied on June 28, 2024, by Judge Joseph K. Sheeran of the Bay County Circuit Court.[1]
