Healthcare As a 3rd generation Staten Islander, Andrea Morse understands the healthcare challenges our communities face. With a deep commitment to serving the unique needs of our diverse neighborhoods, Andrea is dedicated to ensuring that everyone from Bensonhurst to Tottenville has access to affordable, high-quality healthcare. Andrea will join her fellow House Democrats in their continued protection of the Affordable Care Act from Republican attempts to dismantle it. She will fight to lower the ACA premiums. She will fight to improve the ACA, continuing to lower out-of-pocket costs for medical treatment, prescription drugs, and doctor visits. Additionally Andrea will want to lower the age of Medicare Eligibility to 55 and provide a public option to compete with the private insurance market to ensure universal coverage. Protecting Abortion Rights In a time when women's rights are increasingly under threat, Andrea Morse is a staunch advocate for reproductive freedom. Understanding the unique needs and values of Staten Island and South Brooklyn, Andrea is committed to fighting for policies that protect and enhance women's reproductive rights in Congress. We are seeing the consequences of Congress's failure to enshrine that right into federal statute everyday and it is costing women their lives. Andrea knows that a politician belongs nowhere near that incredibly difficult decision and will fight like hell to restore that right to millions of women across the country. Defeat Congestion Pricing and Improve our Commute Andrea Morse stands firmly against the congestion pricing plan set to disproportionately impact our residents. Andrea understands that Staten Island and South Brooklyn do not benefit from the same level of mass transit options available in other parts of New York City, making commuting by car a necessity rather than a choice for many. Congestion pricing risks not only the financial wellbeing of individuals but also the economic health of our local businesses. Increased operational costs for delivery trucks and service vehicles could lead to higher prices for consumers and decreased competitiveness for local companies in the outerboroughs. Andrea commits to bringing together community leaders, transportation experts, and residents to develop innovative solutions tailored to the needs of our district. Whether that be expanding Ferry Access to Brooklyn from the North Shore, allocating funds for the North Shore Rapid Transit system or ensuring that our local subways are fully funded and operating frequently. Andrea knows that in this district people spend too much time commuting and is committed to shortening commute times wherever possible. Protecting Our Democracy and Uprooting Corruption In the face of challenges to our democracy and political corruption, Andrea Morse is committed to defending the integrity of our political system and ensuring that it serves the people, not special interests. Andrea takes a firm stance on issues of transparency and accountability, particularly in relation to financial dealings within Congress. Andrea strongly supports legislation to ban stock trading by members of Congress during their terms in office. We have seen our congresswoman benefit greatly from stock transactions since she's taken office and Andrea believes this is wrong. Andrea will work tirelessly to get shady money out of politics. She supports legislation that requires full transparency of campaign finances and super PAC funding to combat the influence of dark money in our elections. Foreign Affairs Andrea Morse is committed to a foreign policy that protects our national interests, supports our allies, and upholds our values. Recognizing the complex global environment, Andrea emphasizes a pragmatic and principled approach to international relations. Andrea supports smart investments in our military to ensure our forces are prepared for the challenges of modern warfare. This includes funding cutting-edge technology and necessary modernization efforts while eliminating wasteful spending on outdated or unnecessary programs. Andrea’s focus is on maintaining a strong, capable defense that safeguards American interests with efficiency and strategic foresight. Andrea believes in the importance of the U.S. leading on humanitarian issues globally. She will advocate for increased funding for humanitarian aid to support those displaced by conflict and natural disasters, emphasizing the need for solutions that not only address immediate needs but also promote long-term stability and recovery. We need to work with our allies abroad and focus on fighting against extremist forces globally that threaten world peace. Climate Change and Resiliency In the face of climate change and rising sea levels, proper sea wall infrastructure becomes increasingly crucial. As a result of these changing circumstances, radical investment is necessary to prevent devastating storm damage from storms like Hurricane Sandy. Andrea Morse stands fully behind the East Shore Seawall project, and would fight for continued funding of such crucial projects, both in Staten Island and nationwide. Infrastructure New York City derives its greatness from its transportation. Whether in public transportation or our roads, a core part of Staten Island’s character is derived from its transportation system. But for decades, due to lacking funding and poor legislative planning, this core character has crumbled alongside our largely antiquated infrastructure. Andrea Morse will assist House Democrats in the mission to restore the greatness of America’s infrastructure via bills that facilitate the necessary investment into critical infrastructure like the recently passed, monumental Inflation Reduction Act, and bill H.R. 4052. In office, Morse will be dedicated to not only passing infrastructure bills that improve the lives of Staten Islanders and Souther Brooklynites, but also fighting for federal funding for New York City infrastructure. Gun Violence Gun violence is a scourge on our community and it will be a top priority for Andrea to get illegal guns off our streets by passing common sense gun reform at the federal level. As your Congresswoman Andrea will work to pass universal background checks, close the gun show loophole with legislation, and work to shut down the iron pipeline that has guns flooding the streets of New York. Additionally Andrea believes that we need to ban assault weapons, crack down on ghost guns, and strengthen red flag laws nationwide. Public Safety Andrea knows that governments primary role is to keep the public safe, and that would be her top priority when taking office. Andrea believes we need a fully funded police force at the local level and that NYPD officers deserve a raise for the incredible work that they do. We need to fully repeal the bail reform law, strengthen our mental health infrastructure so we get people that are of danger to themselves and others off our streets. Education Education is the most profitable investment our government can make. Shaping the minds of young Americans is one of our greatest responsibilities. From preschool to high school and beyond, Andrea Morse believes that it is necessary to ensure equitable education opportunities for all children.[2] |
