My name is Andres Macias. I'm a father of three young children and a residential construction manager. For the past 7 years I have been solving problems on construction sites and successfully closing jobs. I have the values qualities and qualities needed to improve our failing school district.
  • I am ready to raise the academic standard in our community. District proficiency drops every year and our leadership is the reason why. Let's focus on providing students with better quality education. We should not be satisfied with failure in our public servants.
  • I'm running to represent the long disregarded parent community. Parents in our district are tired of being ignored by their so called "representatives" who are more focused on their careers than serving students and families. This will change once I'm elected.
  • It's time to start building positive, friendly learning environments in every school. Kids cannot learn when they are stressed, scared, anxious or distracted by social media and smart devices. Students are being exposed to more screen time on campus since the district irresponsibly issued unrestricted Chromebooks and Ipads to all students. Teachers should not be afraid to speak their minds to their superiors. The district has an obligation to provide a healthy learning environment to all students and staff.
The district is making a mistake by transitioning to a technology based curriculum. We need to get students off of these devices which are doing harm and bring the focus back to traditional academic achievements.

I'm also very interested in improving how we manage the budget. We need to be more efficient with our resources. It bothers me that our superintendent is getting paid over $275,000 per year while the district is performing below 50% proficiency and declining. I see a district that is being completely mismanaged and is in great need of change.
I have a reflex for identifying problems and coming up with logical solutions.

My drive will not let me rest until issues are resolved and the job is completed successfully.

I believe anything can be accomplished with focus and persistence.

Because of my family and upbringing, I understand the importance of hard work.

I will do whatever it takes to make a positive impact on a failing school district.
I want to be remembered as a father who would not accept failure in our school system. Someone who did everything in my power to stop leaving students behind and reverse our diminishing academic standard.
Primary job of a school board trustee is to be responsive the values, beliefs and concerns of the community while providing students with the best education possible.
A bureaucratic, unresponsive governing board are getting in the way of student progress. Students and teachers should be provided with everything they need for success. If the district is not working for students, parents, or teachers, it's not working at all.
I am running in this election so the parents of San Jose Unified School District can finally have a voice in every important decision regarding their child's education. My door will remain open to all parents and guardians and I'm ready to address their concerns. Parents will no longer be ignored by the district once I'm elected to the governing board.
