Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Andrew Border and I want to affect change for Cook County residents in a sea of legacy machine politicians. I pledge to advocate on behalf of our county, strive to reduce taxes, lower government spending, fight for your safety, and never turn my back on the people like other local politicians have. We can achieve this through a reduction in government spending, reallocation of mismanaged funds, and repairing the promises of safety. I’d be honored to have your vote this November for Cook County District 13 Commissioner.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• GOVERNMENT REFORM: Repeal the June 2022 Cook County public official pay increase. Push anti-corruption reforms outlined by the Independent Voters of Illinois.
• TAX RELIEF: No new taxes, no tax increases. Hold the Cook County Cook County Assessor Office accountable issuing accurate property taxes issued in a timely and consistent matter.
• PUBLIC SAFTEY MANAGEMENT: Demand transparency and real-time data on offenders who are on electronic monitoring. The public has a right to know who is on the streets. Support a fully funded Cook County Jail System so offenders can receive the treatment, rehabilitation and services that are necessary to be successful within their community. Break the streets to prison pipeline.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am focusing my policy around four issues. Government reform, tax relief, public safety, and environmental protection.

Government reform needs to be drastic and bipartisan-- this is why I support using the Independent Voters of Illinois for guidance.

Tax relief: we can not support higher taxes or new taxes while we face the ongoing pressures of high inflation.

Public safety management: we deserve transparency and real-time data on offenders who are out on electronic monitoring. Our communities have a right to know who is on the streets and those awaiting trial deserve access to social services. I support a fully funded Cook County criminal justice system so our citizens can receive the treatment, rehabilitation and services that are necessary to be successful within their community. Break the streets to prison pipeline.

Environmental protection: we need to bring attention to shoreline erosion along the Northshore's lakefront. I propose we ask the Army Corps of Engineers to devise a strategy to protect the shoreline while also promoting healthy ecology. We also should consider prairie restoration alongside County Road Easements.
