2016

Carlson's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • As a City Councilmember, professional project manager, and father of two Bloomington Public School students I am invested in Bloomington. So I am excited to be running for the Minnesota House of Representatives and sharing my positive campaign message with Bloomington residents. In the State House, I will focus on the needs of all Minnesotans. I will create an opportunity economy that works for everyone by improving our infrastructure and supporting our schools.
  • As parents, my wife Kari and I understand the importance of safe roads and quality schools. I believe our elected officials have a responsibility to solving Minnesota's transportation challenges and investing in education from early childhood through college. Having parents who are retired and living on a fixed income, I also understand the importance of setting goals, sticking to a budget, and evaluating outcomes.
  • I care deeply about Bloomington and as a twice elected Bloomington City Councilmember, I have the experience and professional relationships to advocate for the needs of our City and State at the Minnesota Legislature. I am running for state representative because I believe by working together we can make a real difference on issues that matter most to our community and State.
  • I have stood up for democratic principles and demonstrated effective leadership abilities by working with others to advance the public good. As a proven leader, I earned the respect of others with my inclusionary approach to problem-solving and ability to get things done. We need strong leaders at the Capitol if we are to do what is right for Minnesota.
  • I am ready to contribute towards building an opportunity economy that works for all Minnesotans. On the Bloomington Council and as a project manager, I’ve worked across every level of government. I know first-hand the importance of maintaining a comprehensive transportation system and the need to close the skills gap and develop a workforce for 21st century jobs. As a State representative, I'll be able to hit the ground running ensuring that Bloomington residents continue to have a strong voice at the Capitol.[9]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Minnesota

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states.  To contribute to the list of Minnesota scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
