I am a champion for Universal Healthcare, reforming our criminal justice system, protecting our democracy and civil rights, combatting climate change, and opposing corruption and authoritarianism. Whether I personally succeed this endeavor or not, one of my principal goals is to inspire others to pick up the cause of a United Nation that chooses Love over Hate, Wisdom over Ignorance, and a brighter future for all.

When I first made the decision to run for Congress, I did so because I feared the rising divides in our political discourse and believed that I had a voice to bring us back together and prove that anyone who truly cared for our people could be a champion for meaningful change. In the time since then, almost dying from cancer focused my perspective of what truly matters in this life, and that is having love for others and the courage to stand strong in the face of forces that would seek to tear us apart.

I'm a Bay Area native, an Eagle Scout, a classically trained historian, and technology professional. I enjoy helping people succeed and am passionate about contributing to an American culture that values love, kindness, sustainability, service, and stewardship of our Civil Rights and resources for the benefit of all our people and the world at large.

Favorite Quote: "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." -Dr. Seuss
  • As your representative, I will make every effort to restore civility in our political process, reform our healthcare and criminal justice systems, defeat fascism, and do more than we ever have to combat climate change at its sources. If we do not act now, we risk losing everything we have fought so hard for.
  • I love this country and its people, and for as long as I shall live I will be a champion for non-violence, liberty, justice, science, and equality of opportunity for all who are and would be free.
  • I have spent my entire life trying to do the right thing, no matter the cost, and if I am successful, I plan to use this platform to speak truth to power, to fight for our community and the environment, and to pursue my American Dream, which is to inspire others to pick up the cause of a United Nation that will choose love over hate, wisdom over ignorance, and a brighter future for everyone, not just those with the means to help themselves.
*Universal Healthcare - We are the only industrialized nation on Earth that does not provide universal health care to our citizens and I aim to be a voice to change that. Healthcare is a human right, and it’s high time that we put people over profits, once and for all.

  • Sustainability & Renewable Energy - Climate change is a global issue, but affects our communities directly in the form of droughts and wildfires, and I plan to use this platform to take on climate change head on through legislation that influences the largest greenhouse gas emitters in energy, agriculture, manufacturing, and single-use packaging to encourage greater development of green and sustainable alternatives to preserve our environment for future generations.

  • Civil Rights - I plan to continue the work of civil rights leaders who came before me to ensure that we establish a more perfect Union by preserving the right to vote and the right to choose (I support codifying Roe v. Wade into Federal Law), that we have equality of opportunity for all of our citizens under the law, and that our rights are not infringed by tyrannical governments or private corporations.

  • Criminal Justice Reform - I am for the full federal legalization of cannabis, decriminalization of personal use narcotics (in order to treat addiction as a medical rather than criminal issue), ending “no-knock” warrants, and that law enforcement be required to wear body cameras when armed and engaging with the public.
Theodore Roosevelt, Harriet Tubman, and Martin Luter King, Jr. All were heroes and pioneers in their age in the fight for civil rights, reform of our institutions, and the formation of a more perfect Union, and I seek to continue their legacy.
Theodore Roosevelt's "Square Deal," Michelle Alexander's "The New Jim Crow," Thomas Paine's "Common Sense," Yuval Noah Harari's "Sapiens: A Brief History of Human Kind"
Honor, Honesty, Integrity, Love, Trustworthiness, Loyalty, Helpfulness, Friendliness, Courtesy, Kindness, Obedience, Cheerfulness, Thriftiness, Bravery, Cleanliness, and Reverence for others.
I am a dedicated Service Leader that is interested in making the government work more effectively for the people while combatting corruption wherever it rears its ugly head. I have no problem standing on principle and cannot be bought and sold.
I believe that a member of the House should be responsible first and foremost to represent the best of interests of the Nation and the people of their District through sound policy making, use their platform with responsibility for the greatest good, and submit themselves as a servant to the public good rather than sell their influence to the highest bidder. A true public servant will not be bought or sold, is incorruptible, and stands on principle over self-interest.

A Congress-person at their core is a Servant Leader, and should conduct themselves as such.
I want to do everything I can lead by example and to inspire others to pick up the cause of the united American people that will choose love over hate, wisdom over ignorance and a brighter future for everyone, not just those with the means to help themselves. I want our people to know that I am doing this for them and not for myself, and will give everything that I am and have to help my community and our country to form a more perfect Union.
My first job was as a catering server at Beets Hospitality Group in Livermore, California. I worked here on a seasonal basis for nearly 4 years while I was in college and also had the opportunity to serve as a bar-back and bartender on occasion.
It's hard to pick a favorite, but if I were to choose, it would be "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius. It speaks to me on a deep level on the impermanence of the lives we lead, the importance of one's ethics, and the power of taking a stoic approach to the challenges of life as we seek to find our place in the universe. It's a great read for anyone, especially any one who would seek to lead others in any capacity.
Voy (Original Mix) - Vale, San Pacho
I had a harrowing battle with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma that was primarily in my spine in 2022 that nearly claimed my life and almost left me paralyzed. Nearly 7 months of intense chemo, lumbar punctures, and physical therapy post-spinal surgery gave me a new lease on life and it is an opportunity I will not waste.
It gives any normal person who is 25 years old, has been a U.S. citizen for at least seven years, and a resident of the state in which they would seek to represent the opportunity to step up for their community and lead on a national scale on behalf of all Americans if they have enough will, energy, and passion to do the job and make a difference.
As with all roles, experience is gained from doing the work and "learning by doing." I don't think previous experience is a hard requirement, it's something that anyone can pick up on the job if they put in the work to get elected and serve.
Global Climate Change, the growing political divide/polarization in our populace, mass incarceration/the failed War on Drugs, mass automation of jobs, the rise of authoritarian states throughout the world, energy independence.
I am for reasonable term limits, especially for Federal Office. If it were up to me, I would favor 5 terms for the House (Max 10 Years), 2 Terms for the Senate (Max 12 Years), and 2 Terms for President (Max 8 Years - As it stands to date) for a grand total of 30 years in Federal Elected office for only the most successful political figures.

It is my belief that term limits will lead to greater representative democracy if the same players are not monopolizing the same offices for decades.
I recall a story from one of my constituents who invited me in to their home and shared their story of how they needed surgery to fix a degenerative issue they were facing that would ultimately leave them paralyzed if left untreated, but did not have the resources/medical coverage to afford their treatment. This is unacceptable and the status quo must change to ensure that no one faces a preventable health outcome like this.
I wear Carhartt because I'm working on myself ;)
Absolutely, but that first requires that all parties in negotiation are willing to give in order to get. What's more, people should come before profits.
I think that any bills regarding funding should first look to reallocate existing spend versus increasing spend if it can be helped. I think it is important that the House, which in theory represents the American people at large, determines our budgets, but legislation that is written regarding spending initiatives should be digestible and read by all who would vote on said legislation to ensure that "pork-barrel" legislation is held at bay and hidden corruption is mitigated.
The US House has a responsibility to focus it's attention on threats that are both foreign and domestic, as well as to reign in corporate/tech power (the rise of AI is going to irreversibly change our economy and workforce, we need intelligent and informed leaders to keep their attention on this to safely and effectively regulate to protect the interests of the average American citizen).

Campaign website

Engdahl’s campaign website stated the following:

Universal Healthcare
After my first bid to run for Congress, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in the Fall of 2022. As a result, I had to fight a harrowing 6-month battle to beat the disease and am now happy to say that after 1 major spinal surgery, 4 lumbar punctures, 6 infusions of chemotherapy, and countless hours of strenuous yoga and physical therapy, I'm officially in remission and have a new lease on life. However, not every American is so lucky.

While my medical insurance covered my treatments, I am painfully aware that others throughout our nation have had their life-saving treatments outright denied by their insurance providers and/or faced medical bills that they simply could not afford to pay, and that is not right or fair. There is no reason why I should be here and others not simply by the nature of what level medical insurance we have.

We are the only industrialized nation on Earth that does not provide universal health care to our citizens and I aim to be a voice to change that. Healthcare is a human right, and it's high time that we put people over profits, once and for all.

Ceasefire in Gaza
I stand for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza and for the immediate release of Israeli hostages by Hamas. The events of October 7 in which Hamas murdered ~1400 innocent Israelis was wrong and a vile action that I firmly condemn, but the over-the-top response of the Israeli military to indiscriminately butcher ~26,000 Palestinians (as of most recent estimate on January 30, 2024, the majority of which have been innocent civilians & children), is beyond the pale.

Two wrongs do not make a right and there can be no peace and healing in this conflict or the region until this unjust bombardment is ended and the Palestinian people are treated with dignity and respect, either in the form of a lasting two-state solution and end to the occupation of Palestinian territories, or the more likely long-term outcome of a one-state solution where Palestinian citizens enjoy equal rights to their Israeli neighbors and an end to the apartheid-style conditions that they presently suffer under.

As Israel's main ally and supplier of military equipment and funding, we are complicit in these civilian deaths and it should be our responsibility to broker peace with diplomatic solutions and humanitarian aid to put a lasting stop to this violence once and for all.

Criminal Justice Reform
The United States—the "land of the free and home of the brave" —is the world leader in mass incarceration, hosting 5% of the world's population but 25% of its incarcerated population.

Much of this disparity is related to mandatory minimum sentencing stemming from the War on Drugs, which has led to millions of our own people- especially in communities of color-being rendered permanent pariahs and second-class citizens with little hope of getting their lives meaningfully back on track once they've served time.

What's more, too many people have lost their lives at the hands of law enforcement without due process and little repercussion, and I aim to change that.

I am for the full federal legalization of cannabis, decriminalization of personal use narcotics (in order to treat addiction as a medical rather than criminal issue), ending "no-knock" warrants, and requiring that all law enforcement officers be required to wear body cameras when armed and engaging with the general public.

What's more, I want to ensure that we treat prisoners serving time humanely and emphasize education and reform over purely punitive punishment. If we can commit to developing more programs of re-assimilation into society to avoid recidivism, we may ensure that all folks who have served their sentence can become productive citizens through greater access to opportunity to participate in our democracy and economy.

Passing the Equal Rights Amendment and Defending the LGBTQI+ Community
The "American Dream" belongs to all of our people and I will not sit idly by as lawmakers across the country enact policies that unfairly discriminate against our citizens on matters of sex, gender, sexual orientation, or race.

According to the ACLU, as of January 2024, 387 pieces of anti-LGBTQl+ legislation were been put forward by state legislatures across the country, and as a friend and family member to queer and trans people, I will not let these bigoted affronts to the civil liberties of our people go unanswered.

It is high time that we pass the the Equal Rights Amendment to ensure that "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article," as the Amendment would enshrine in our Constitution.

The struggle for civil rights began long before us and will continue well after we are gone, and though it is up to each generation to respond to the crises of their respective times, NOW IS OUR MOMENT to ensure that the spirit of the Constitution applies to all our people in equal measure. If we do this, I believe that a new age of prosperity and harmony will be given life and that our culture will continue to evolve to become more equal, just, kind, and accepting than it has been up until this point.

Combatting Climate Change
According to NASA, "the effects of human-caused global warming are happening now, are irreversible on the timescale of people alive today, and will worsen in the decades to come."

In our District in particular, we can see the effects of this in the form of droughts that have greatly reduced our water supply and left us prone to devastating wildfires. Climate change is a global issue, but it affects our communities directly.

Sustainability & Renewable Energy are the keys to our future, and I plan to use this platform to take on climate change head-on through legislation that influences the largest greenhouse gas-emitters in energy, agriculture, manufacturing, and single-use packaging to focus greater development of green, renewable, and sustainable alternatives to do what we can-while we still can—to preserve our environment for future generations.

Codify Roe v. Wade
I believe fundamentally in a woman's right to her bodily autonomy and ability to make her own medical decisions that impact her health and future. Her choices in this regard are none of our business.

I believe that Roe v. Wade should be codified into federal law in defense of women and their civil liberties throughout our Nation.

Defending Democracy
I plan to continue the work of the civil rights leaders who came before me to ensure that we establish a more perfect Union, first and foremost by defending the right to vote through efforts like passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and making Election Day a National Holiday.

We must ensure that we have equality of opportunity for all of our citizens under the law, and that our rights are not infringed by tyrannical governments or increasingly powerful private corporations and their lobbyists.

As such, I would also like to add my voice to the cause of overturning Citizens United to get corporate money out of politics as well as support ranked-choice voting initiatives to lower the barrier to entry for normal citizens to participate in the democratic process.

Community Service
Each of us has a personal stake in the well-being of our respective neighborhoods and communities, and I think that volunteer work is a great outlet to get involved to help our neighbors in need and ensure that our roads, waterways, and environment at large are clean of litter/pollution and preserved for future generations.

There are local organizations that are already doing important work in these areas, and I want to use my platform to encourage others to get involved and lend their direct support by connecting the public and private sectors to solve local challenges of food insecurity, litter, and pollution.

Common Sense Gun Safety Legislation
As an Eagle Scout and Congressional Candidate, I have sworn to defend the Constitution and the civil liberties it enshrines on behalf of our people. With that said, the right to bear arms without restrictions is not how l interpret the 2nd Amendment and the present way we are handling America's gun violence epidemic is clearly not working and only getting worse.

As of April 2023, in each of the last three years, there have been more than 600 mass shootings, almost two a day on average. To make matters worse, according to the National Institute of Health, gun violence has now surpassed motor vehicle crashes as the leading cause of death among people ages 1-19 years in the United States.

We are the only industrialized Nation on Earth that has mass shootings on the scale and frequency that we do. How many more mass shootings is it going to take before we actually do something about it?

Background checks and banning the sale high capacity assault weapons are the least we can do to combat this epidemic, and I think we need to do much and more to ensure that gun safety training and licensing is required to purchase any weapon that has more firing capacity than a bolt-action rifle or a break action shotgun. We must also invest heavily in providing access to healthcare (especially in the realm of mental health) for our people and our youth.

Above all else, we must change our culture to embrace non-violence as a means of settling conflict and work together to heal the divides that exist within our Nation. Enough of our people and children have died needlessly in the past decade not to act.

Common sense policy with regards to the use and sale of firearms is possible if we choose for it (that is why the Constitution has the concept of Amendments in the first place), and I plan to lead by example to do what I can encourage others to embrace this way of thinking.[3]

I had a woman tell me about a time where she protested during the height of the Black Lives Matter Protests and was arrested alongside another protestor. She was white, and the other was black, and though both were handled roughly in their arrests, the black woman was savagely thrown to the ground and beaten while the white woman who I spoke with was restrained much less harshly and had witessed this disparity in "justice" in horror. She told me this in tears.

Another woman opened up to me about how she and her husband were successful caterers and lost their business and livelihoods as a result of the pandemic shutdowns. She and her husband are old and are struggling to make ends meet now through no fault of their own and worry about their ability to find other work at this stage in their lives.

Both of these stories have stuck with me and I will carry these accounts on my heart regardless of if I am elected or not.
