I have lived in Athens for the past 25 years. I grew up in Duluth, graduating Duluth High School, where I earned the HOPE scholarship to attend UGA. As a proud graduate of both the Terry College of Business and the School of Public and International Affairs, where I obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a Specialization in with a Specialization in Local Government, I am incredibly excited to be running for District 46, which includes much of UGA’s campus.

As the son of a public educator and a public servant, I understand the value of education because I’ve lived it. I know the power of public service because I’ve seen it in action. With a parent who was a business owner and a bipolar manic depressive, I know the dire need for a healthcare system that treats both the body and the mind because I’ve experienced it first-hand.

Being a first-generation Democrat who comes from a family of compassionate Republicans, I know we have far more in common with each other than it might seem these days. I want to work to make Georgia a better place for everyone who lives here.

  • Nothing is more fundamental to our Democracy than free and fair elections, yet under current leadership, Georgians face more barriers to the polls than at any time since the Civil Rights movement. Georgia has closed polling locations, limited hours and purged voters, often without warning or reason. Georgia has made it easier to toss out ballots and harder to count them, in part by weaponizing the Secretary of State’s Office for partisan gain. And too often it is communities of color that are the target of these voter suppression efforts. Voting rights are under siege, and we need to do everything we can to strengthen our democracy. If elected, I will fight for a Georgia where voting rights are prioritized, not laid by the wayside.
  • Here in Georgia, we must pass legislation that ensures full reproductive rights to everyone in this state. We need legislation that ensures full bodily autonomy for every Georgian. The people of this state deserve to be able to make decisions about their bodies without government interference. Abortion is healthcare, and our whole healthcare system needs to be reevaluated. Our healthcare system should heal us, not pick our pockets at every opportunity. For too long, politicians have put the interests of the Healthcare Industrial Complex ahead of the health of working families. This ends now.
  • We need to win back the state legislature, which deals with everything from affordable housing and affordable healthcare to education and climate change. Currently leadership is sitting on a $6.58 billion surplus in this state while Georgians are struggling -- that money needs to be reinvested back into our communities immediately.
Coming from a family of educators, public education is near and dear to my heart. We must fully fund public education, so that every child in this state receives a first rate education, regardless of their zip code. This includes making technical college free, and traditional four-year college affordable for everyday Georgians. No one should have to mortgage their future just to have a solid career, buy a house, or raise a family.
