I am running for this position because I am a third-generation educator, a former teacher in AISD, and a graduate of the district. As someone who cares deeply about the success of our district, I want to bring the perspective of a recent teacher to the board as we confront our present and coming challenges. I’m a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with four degrees in Government, History, International Relations, and Latin American Studies. For my service in the classroom, I was awarded Teacher Change Maker by Generation Citizen in 2018, Ally of the Year by Young Women’s Christian Association in 2019, and Travis ECHS Teacher of the Year in 2020.
  • Improve experiences and outcomes for ALL students, especially our Special Education, multilingual and economically disadvantaged populations.
  • Prioritize teacher and staff morale and retention.
  • Ensure that mental health support is easily available to staff and students across the district.
Prioritizing the mental health of students and teachers and ensuring available and accessible support is one of my biggest priorities. Academic outcomes correlate directly to mental health. Our district must have an inclusive model of education, focusing on improving experiences and outcomes for ALL students–specifically Special Education, multilingual, and economically disadvantaged students.

The teacher shortage is another critical issue. Our teachers are woefully underpaid, devalued, micromanaged, and mistrusted. Until we provide relevant professional development, accountability for administrators, and adequate compensation, we will continue to experience staff shortages. I will exhaust every avenue to keep our staff appropriately supported and our schools well-resourced and open.
