Political philosophy
Hamilton submitted the following statement to Ballotpedia:[5]
“ | Andrew is a proud resident of the diverse and vibrant 1st Ward of Chicago. Like many 1st Ward residents, Andrew is frustrated with the disconnect between some members of City Council and the communities that they represent. As an attorney, Andrew has dedicated his career to fighting for consumers and victim rights. And as your Alderman, he will continue to fight to ensure that your voice is heard at City Hall and make sure that your interests are being best served. As an attorney he stuck up for victims’ rights in his law practice; and as your alderman he is ready to stick up for your rights in City Hall!
Andrew feels that the government belongs to the people and should always act with the best interests of the people. He believes that residents deserve to know how government operates and how their hard-earned tax dollars are being spent. As your Alderman, Andrew will work tirelessly to: Develop a mobile application for residents designed to increase awareness and efficiency in fixing potholes, graffiti tagging, snow removal, street lighting, and more. Decrease graffiti and crime. Increase community safety. Encourage job growth in the community. Work to make the 1st Ward greener. Increase the arts, music, and theater presence. Improve transparency in education Consider more efficient use of tax dollars in making repairs in the 1st Ward. Voice 1st Ward concerns at City Hall. And much more. There is no denying that small businesses are vital to our community. Having his own small law practice, Andrew understands and sympathizes with the concerns that small businesses deal with on a daily basis. Businesses throughout the community sell useful products, employ local residents, and generate tax revenue to reinvest in our community. However, City Hall often places a heavy burden on our business owners and our art centers. Andrew will listen to your concerns and will fight to bring a sustainable and positive climate for small business owners, and increase employment. The first step in achieving this is cutting the red tape that plagues these businesses and eliminating onerous fines for business owners. Business owners should be allowed to focus on creating jobs and expanding instead of complying with excessive fees from City Hall. Andrew believes that the safety and security of our community is critical. The graffiti and the recent criminal acts in our Ward is troubling. Andrew will fight hard to ensure a greater police presence in the community and will create committees to alleviate graffiti damage on homes and businesses. Andrew admires and appreciates the avant-garde artistic scene in our community. He wants to build on the existing infrastructure for the arts, music, and theatre by making it easier for these centers to do business in the Ward and by petitioning City Hall and Springfield for benefits. Andrew is a member of the Logan Square Chamber of Commerce, Westtown Chamber of Commerce, the Wicker Park & Bucktown Chamber of Commerce, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and Illinois Trial Lawyers’ Association. We need your help. Because together we can make the 1st Ward more diverse and vibrant than ever![6] |
