2014
Lanza's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[16]
Cutting Taxes
- Excerpt: "Senator Lanza recognizes that a high tax burden hurts our City and State economy and makes it difficult for middle class families to make ends meet. This is why Senator Lanza has consistently fought to reduce our taxes. In the past two years he has succeeded in cutting numerous taxes – putting money back in the pockets of Staten Islanders."
Government Reform
- Excerpt: "When Senator Lanza was first elected to the Senate, he promised to fight to have Staten Island become its own separate Judicial District. He was successful in this effort, and continues to work on ensuring the needs of this judicial district are being met."
Jobs & Our Economy
- Excerpt: "Senator Lanza has dedicated many resources to address the needs of our local economy. This focus has helped add jobs, even during the economic recession. According to a May 2012 report from the NYS Department of Labor, New York is one of only five states to have more private sector jobs today than it did before the recession."
Law Enforcement
- Excerpt: "As a former prosecutor in the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, Senator Lanza has a clear vision on how to combat crime on Staten Island. Working with members of law enforcement, Senator Lanza supports numerous pieces of legislation that directly enhance the safety and security of our community."
Senior Citizens
- Excerpt: "Senator Lanza has successfully fought to improve the quality of life for senior citizens on Staten Island. When the State budget called for drastic cuts to Staten Island’s Friendship Clubs, Senator Lanza stood strong in opposition to such cuts. Leading the effort to ensure our senior centers remained open, Senator Lanza worked with his colleagues in Albany to fully restore the necessary funding that kept these centers fully operational."

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
