My name is Andrew Matishen, I am a father of four and long time resident of Northern Utah County. I was raised as a pro labor democrat in New Jersey. Later became a Republican after having interned in the senate and moved to Utah where I have raised my family. I am a CPA and work for Northrop Grumman in the defense industry. I studied Public Policy at the College of William and Mary. As a principal based fiscal conservative who is concerned about our environment and knowledgeable regarding our nation's history, I felt like the Republican Party left me behind in the mid 2010's. I joined the United Utah Party as I see in them interests that better align with where this country was prior to growing extremism and where it can go when we work together. If we fight amongst ourselves and let our self interests get the better of us we will not be strong enough to withstand our foreign adversaries and we will diminish the leadership that so many world wide need to have hope for a brighter tomorrow.
  • I listen to and respect others regardless of whether or not I agree with them. We all have a right to be heard and respected regardless of how radical our ideas are.
  • I am not pushing ideas that 51% of the people agree on. I am seeking legislation that 75% of the people can compromise on that will help our state.
  • Five changes that will improve our political leadership. 1 Eliminate Primaries. 2. Eliminate campaigning. 3. Rank Choice Voting. 4. Term Limits. 5. Prosecute legislators benefiting from conflicts of interests
Integrity of leadership. That is why I am pushing these five changes that will improve our political leadership. 1 Eliminate Primaries. 2. Eliminate campaigning. 3. Rank Choice Voting. 4. Term Limits. 5. Prosecute legislators benefiting from conflicts of interests. Doing this will minimize fraud incentives, improve the pool of candidates running for office, increase civility, increase civic involvement, simplify processes, and reduce the influence of donors and political parties on our nation's laws.

Also concerned about fresh water in the West and specifically Utah. Need to work together to minimize water usage and wasting. In general concerned about housing costs, crime, uneducated classes of people, government growth, and dysfunctional federalism.
I look up to Jesus Christ's example as one who consistently lived according to God's will specifically as he was willing to sacrifice his time and eventually his life for the well being of others. I admire Pres Washington's willingness to serve and not be crowned king and all others that do not abuse the authority temporarily given to them. I admire the less known people around me I visit with regularly that sacrifice, love others, and suffer without any praise or thought for themselves. Your crowns above will far exceed those of the rich and famous on earth.
Humility, self deprecation, diligence to get to root cause, problem solver, peacemaker, seeker of win/wins.
That when pushed he chose the best course and set a good example for others.
July 4 1976. Went to a huge Bicentennial fire works show outside Philadelphia Art museum. Was five and a half. Enjoyed the flags and spirit of patriotism more than the fireworks themselves.
Getting out of my comfort zone. Speaking up when I had a good idea or saw something wrong. Communicating to others the thoughts of my well intentioned heart.
