The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 25, 2014. Walter Dearing was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Andrew McDaniel was unopposed in the Republican primary. Dearing faced McDaniel in the general election.[6][7] McDaniel defeated Dearing in the general election.[8]
