I am a Louisville native and was raised in the Tyler Park neighborhood. I am a product of the Jefferson County Public School System. I left for college in 1991 and then returned home in 2004 to start a new business and raise a family. I have a background in history, urban planning, real estate and finance. I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and did graduate level work at Johns Hopkins University. I started my career on Capitol Hill and then transitioned into affordable housing and community development in Washington, DC. I purchased my first real estate investment, a 4-plex Brownstone in Washington, on my 25th birthday. I am a small business owner and an incurable entrepreneur. I co-founded Preston Thomas Properties, LLC which is a full-service commercial real estate brokerage and management company. I am an active member at Highland Presbyterian Church. I am a proud member of the board of directors at the Cabbage Patch Settlement House and the Louisville Arena Authority. I served as a member of the Energy and Environment Committee for Governor Andy Beshear's transition team. I am passionate about what makes neighborhoods and cities work well, or not, and how government can improve the lives of its citizens. I believe we can improve neighborhoods and cities by investing in public infrastructure and improving the built environment. I believe in equal access to government services and social, racial and economic equity.
  • We must provide equal access to government services and invest in the people and places that have the least social, economic and political capital.
  • We must focus on rebuilding the faith and trust between LMPD and the community - - a two-way street - - in order to improve public safety.
  • I am willing to work together with anyone who is prepared to help Louisville heal and move our city forward in a positive direction.
My background in urban planning informs my worldview of what government can do to promote more livable neighborhoods, healthier communities and, in the end, more sustainable cities. Investing in the public infrastructure, particularly along our commercial corridors, is the same time an investment in our local shops and businesses and an investment in public safety. When the "little things" are aesthetically pleasing and in good condition (the curbs, sidewalks, signage, benches, plantings, public art, bike lanes, etc.) they add up and make a place feel safe and inviting. That safe and inviting place then encourages families to stroll or ride down the avenue, spend time and money supporting local shops and businesses and improves public safety by having more eyes on the street.
