Environment, Education, Healthcare and Labor are of paramount importance for our generation and the future generation of our citizens.
Being a Roman Catholic Christian, the first example would be Jesus Christ as my guiding light. My family is including my grandparents, parents, siblings and cousins and close friends are always my guiding lights and I often consult with them and learn from them.
The most comprehensive books or films that could describe personal a political philosophy that could benefit people are the lessons of history starting with the nations over time such as Ancient history then later European history to the development of our modern American history and reasoning behind the transformation from a monarch-king-queen- style of rulership to democracy with structured balances of power we find in our modern Executive, legislative and Supreme Court systems that currently even though under scrutiny are a balanced form of governance.
Evolving over time from a Federalist then Laissez-Fair approaches to modifications and to Democrat-Republican emergences and even finer definition of liberal/conservative or left/right philosophy and combinations of deep value systems, these transformative and decade growth political changes, over the last three centuries, offer valuable tools to discover and learn how our connections to a society's value systems, continuance and focus on these priorities and their influences over the next generations and the issues they will face can be far reaching such as the environment, learning, healing, safety and survival.
Integrity, fairness, ability to compromise and the standing up for the values one represents are key to ensuring that trust can take place for those you represent. The diversity of the population must be taken into consideration including all ages, races, ethnicities, cultures, disabilities, economic status, genders and a range of challenges that must be dealt with effectively and fairly with governing laws to follow.
I am an objective listener, good analyzer, factual and progressive thinker who is fair in decision making and consider all angle of the issues.
Core responsibilities of elected official should be to offer the best solutions for the people one represents by analyzing all the data involved to make the best decision for all and actively communicate this to the people they represent in a manner they can understand. The best approach is to bring consensus on issues that will benefit and build on issues with community support to sustain the future.
I would hope that I could make the place where grew up and called home better place and that family and friends will always remember me as someone who brought happiness and joy to them and made their life better.
I remember the assassination of JFK being on TV as my grandmother wanted us to be removed from the TV room as were very young at the time as it was an emotional event and there was fear, shock and sadness.
I was a lifeguard at a local beach in Groton Connecticut and worked there about four years.
All books are my favorites but the Bible has a so many beautiful parts such as psalms which are often made to music.
A cross between all the Wizard of Oz Characters
Soaked by Adam Lambert - beautiful voice and range - very moving as I am a musician.
There are many struggles we all face in life but a few of them for me could include financial balance, life/work balance and time.
The ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature should be one of open dialogue and the presentation of ideas and solutions that can benefit the electorate, this included protection, education, access to healthcare, protections of workers, and balance development that protects our natural resources and offers sustainable resources, quality neighborhoods and business development that benefits communities.
Financial stability in taxation, environmental protection, affordable housing, labor protection, educational and healthcare sustainability and quality and public safety.
I believe that any and all experience everywhere including government and politics is beneficial.
Building relationships is a key component of legislators however if people disagree with policies disagreement do not destroy relationships but the ability to never compromise is what is the demise of much of governance.
I believe Joe Biden led us though a horrible pandemic with honor and strength. I believe that Jimmy Carter was one of the most intelligent leaders and people would not listen to his statements on reducing our dependence on material possessions and he showed great honor after his presidency by helping with the homeless. From Kennedy's building upon the space program, to Johnson's great society and Clinton's intercontinental connections and open trading policies, to FDR's new deal feeding the starving, depression and work crisis to war, all the way back to many other leaders. Even Nixon, Ford, Eisenhour had many good qualities although some obvious mistakes were made. Transparency, Obama's community service for diversity and our past leader in Connecticut such as Grasso and Susan Bysiewicz and the inclusion of so many woman in leadership roles Geraldine Ferraro, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Kamal Harris, and many others have brought our nation to a level of service that so many other nations are in awe of. Through these leaders we saw many changes that brought us to where we are today. Not perfect but hopefully stronger and kinder.
There are many stories that I hear every day from people who have lost family members due to illness, sudden death, or old age. Some of the most touching stories are the ones where there is a loss of a spouse, mother or father or child which changes the family dynamic forever. Working people every day from every age group, I often try to talk and act in a manner that if a conversation I have with someone is possibly my last, I try to remember something nice to say. Since we know not the day nor the hour, every story heard is one that has meaning and life can be very short so we should all try to do our best each day. One particular story is of a co-worker named Pat who I had tried to contact for about a week or so but did not hear back from her. I later found out that she had died in the hospital and had not been well for some time. She was always a fighter for those who were disadvantaged and was an active member of her Union and helped her son who was disabled being a kind, caring and loving mother and community activist. It was now her time to rest. Her motto was:
"Do something nice for someone"
"I know I look forty...."
The legislature in certain circumstances should have the authority to grant emergency powers. The specifics of this would depend on the need, issue and urgency.
Reduction to 55 miles per hour on the Interstate 95. There are far too many fatalities happening and people seem to be out of control when driving. Its a crisis situation.
Environment, Education, Health, Labor, Finance.
Financial transparency is so important and governmental accountability is crucial for success and the continued ability of the governmental bodies to be believable, trusted and respected to that the citizens will not lose faith in the process.
This could be a good thing in certain cases such as if the death penalty was reintroduced.
