Andrew Rodriguez is a lifelong resident of the City of Walnut and the 55th State Assembly District. He is currently on the Walnut City Council, most recently serving as Mayor. During his term, Rodriguez and the City Council have balanced the city's budget annually, completed a general plan land use update for the first time in forty years, and have worked to make Walnut one of the safest cities in California. In 2019, Walnut was ranked as one of the financially healthiest cities in California by the State Controller's Office.

Born and raised in Walnut, Andrew attended public schools from Kindergarten through high school. He is a graduate of Rutgers University- New Brunswick and holds a Masters degree from the University of Southern California.

With a background in city planning, Andrew has been an advocate for more housing using smart growth strategies for the city. He is also an appointed Small Business Commissioner for the County of Los Angeles, passionate about helping entrepreneurs succeed.
  • The Experience to be Effective: Andrew Rodriguez has been an effective Mayor, Councilman, and Small Business Comissioner, and will bring his experience and effective skillsets to Sacramento.
  • Transparency, Always: Andrew Rodriguez will as accessible as possible in order to understand the needs of the district.
  • Service Above Self: I will always prioritize the needs of constituents and our communities
In Sacramento, Andrew Rodriguez will-

Strengthen Public Education: As the COVID-19 pandemic has created a sense of uncertainty for millions of students, Andrew will work with local school districts to ensure educators and staff have the necessary resources to teach students in a safe environment.

Expand Economic Opportunity: At a time when many families and small business owners are struggling to make ends meet, Andrew will work hard to expand economic opportunity in California. He will prioritize legislation that assists small business owners with economic relief through the course of the pandemic. As a long term goal, Andrew Rodriguez will work with local school districts to increase the number of trade and vocational programs on high school campuses in the district that will train the next generation of California's workforce.

Address Housing & Homelessness: As housing prices continue to rise, Andrew understands the imperative of keeping home ownership a reality for those hoping to raise a family in our community. Using his background and understanding of city planning and real estate finance, Andrew will support addressing the lack of housing that is affordable by incentivizing the production of new units for professionals, families, and seniors.

Prioritize College Affordability: College debt burdens millions of students and graduates. As an Assemblymember, Andrew Rodriguez will work to ensure higher education is accessible to any Californian who seek it.
The most effective elected officials show up to their job with a proactive mindset, and follow through by going above and beyond to provide outstanding service for their constituents. The elected official is accessible and understand the needs of residents and other stakeholders in the district.
The core responsibilities for someone elected to this office ultimately revolves around doing what is best for their constituents, and for the state of California.
I believe the greatest challenges facing California over the next decade are rebounding the state's economy post pandemic, addressing the housing and homelessness crisis, expanding health coverage to every Californian, addressing climate change, and strengthening public education.
I believe it is beneficial for public officials to build relationships with people at all levels of government. It is key to better and more effective public service.
