I’m Andy Nielsen and I am running for Indianapolis City-County Council District 14 on the Eastside of Indianapolis in the 2023 municipal elections. I am a proud Democrat, a career public servant, an anti-poverty advocate, and a community leader. I have more than a decade of experience working in government, constituent services, and advocacy to make sure our government and laws are working better for people, and I plan to make it my full-time job to make sure that happens for the Eastside.
  • As an anti-poverty advocate with more than 10 years of experience working in government, advocacy, and constituent services, I know that government can work better to serve and support all people. District 14 needs someone with the energy, temperament, and experience to ensure the Eastside remains a vibrant, safe, and inclusive place to call home.
  • I believe that the Eastside needs and deserves someone who is waking up every day and thinking about how we can make the community even stronger for the 40,000 people who live in District 14. That is why I'm committed to make City-County Council my full-time job, so that I can best serve our community.
  • Together, we can get things done for the Eastside. We can make our streets and sidewalks safer, especially for kids walking to school or waiting for the bus. Together, we can make sure every neighbor has a safe, clean, affordable place to call home, access to healthy food, and mental health supports. Together, we can create vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods with community gathering spaces and incredible parks. With hard work, community partnerships, and a strong Councillor, we can make the Eastside even better for all people.
My top priorities as Councillor are to 1) make our streets and sidewalks safer (with a focus on school zone safety) and improve Eastside’s infrastructure; 2) ensure every neighbor feels safe and supported in their community and has an affordable, clean, and safe place to call home; and 3) develop vibrant neighborhoods by supporting small businesses, expanding green spaces and community gathering spaces, and making Indianapolis as inclusive and welcoming as possible.

Additionally, I am currently an anti-poverty advocate in Indiana, focused on consumer finance protections, tax policy, and housing policy to support low-income Hoosiers. I look forward to taking that skillset to the City-County Council to protect and support our most vulnerable neighbors.
