Ballotpedia biographical submission form

The candidate completed Ballotpedia's biographical information submission form:

What is your political philosophy?

Prioritize spending on basic services; lower the tax burden on residents; reduce fees and permitting for small businesses.

Is there anything you would like to add?

"District 5 resident for over 18 years and therefore very familiar with the challenges facing our neighborhood. I've worked as a waiter, greeter, coach, track official, director of athletics, and financial advisor to make a living, but also taken the time to be involved at City Hall - speaking out on behalf of citizens to ensure a better life for all Arlington residents.

In everything, I'm seeking to serve others. Your support is necessary so that I can continue to speak out and represent ALL residents of District 5."[3]

—Andy Prior[1]

Candidate Connection

Andy Prior completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2019. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Prior's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Lowering water rates, lowering the effective property tax rates, and reducing fees and streamlining the permitting process for small businesses.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Ballot Access, Education and Equal Protection

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

"The Law" by Bastiat

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I'm a listener, a problem solver and work well with people. Additionally, I ask lots of questions and have a desire to stick up for the little guy when he/she is being ignored.

What legacy would you like to leave?

A smaller, less intrusive local government that takes less money out of resident's wallets, while taking better care of basic services that are expected by all.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

I spent a summer working at Six Flags, mainly so I could ride all the roller coasters to my heart's content.

What is your favorite holiday? Why?

Thanksgiving, for three reasons: 1.) It is a reminder to be thankful and generous in all circumstances; 2.) It is the only uniquely American holiday; and 3.) I can trace both sides of my family back to a dozen Mayflower passengers in all.

What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?

I believe that listening to the needs and concerns of all residents in District 5 is the only way to properly provide representative government.
