Ane Romero ran for election to the Albuquerque City Council to represent District 4 in New Mexico. Romero lost in the general runoff election on December 10, 2019.

Romero was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 15 of the New Mexico House of Representatives.[1]

Biography

Romero earned her B.A. in political science with an emphasis in law from New Mexico Highlands University in 2005 and her master's in public affairs from New Mexico Highlands University in 2011.[2]

Romero's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[7]

  • Improving public education: As the daughter of teachers, Ane Romero’s love and respect for learning was instilled at an early age. As a legislator, she will expand early childhood education, emphasize teaching over testing, and reduce class sizes.
  • Reducing crime and keeping our families safe: Nothing matters if our families are not safe. Ane Romero will work to keep our communities healthy and safe by expanding access to mental health and substance abuse resources/services and work towards the expansion of innovative crime prevention initiatives.
  • Strengthening the economy and creating jobs: As a small business owner, Ane Romero knows what it will take to get our economy moving again. She will invest in expanded job training and apprenticeships, rebuild roads and bridges, and grow high-value, job-creating industries like film and renewable energy.
  • Ensuring honesty and ethics in government: We need people you can trust in public office. Ane Romero will fight to to create an Independent Ethics Commission and supports broadcasting what goes on in the legislature.[8]
