Biography

Anemashaun Bomani was born in Detroit, Michigan. He earned an associate degree from Oakland Community College in 1970 and a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1974. His professional experience includes working as a licensed social worker. Bomani was appointed to the Affordable Housing Task Force, Community Aid and Development. He has also served as a fellow with Community of Change/Housing Justice Narrative and the Heritage Youth program.

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a 30 year community activist and organizer, who graduated from Michigan State University and I am a licensed Social Worker. I care about people not corporations and/or billionaires. I have 6 years experience as a community liaison/policy analyst. Currently, I am a substitute teacher at Detroit Public Schools, having a passion for mentoring young people. I also worked extensively with the elderly through the Detroit Area Agency on Aging. I have been on the front lines of trying to save our schools and city from bankruptcy, returning our bonds and revenue sharing money from Lansing. As a citizen who attended the community meetings concerned that about the environment and Chrysler-Fiat expansion Many residents have contacted me and made me aware of there health issues. I will be the right candidate to fight for the people.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• I will be an advocate to fight for real environemental justice
• I have a plan to develop Affordable housing and home ownership
• I want a real community benefits ordinance to assist the people in the 4th district.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I work with the Detroit Public Schools Community District to rehab the Recreation Centers and Monteith Public Library. I want to pass an ordinance that mandates equitable use of public funds for Housing Revitalization, Environmental Justice and Affordability.

What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the state government and legal system?

Detroit City Council have the power to enact policies that address constituent concerns. I know the constituents are my boss and I'm here to serve them in the 4th district.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

The former Detroit Councilman Kwame Kenyatta.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

"If you don't love the people, you can't serve the people".
As an effective councilmember, I resepct the roles of the constitents. I will study, listens and I am open to the public dialogue and suggestions to improve the 4th district

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

The fact that I will involve myself in action planning that benefits the constituents of the 4th district and I have the right tools to accomplish this.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

A passion to serve the people and act of their recommendations. The constiuents of the 4th district are number 1 responsibilities. I will be accountable to the constiuents of the 4th district.

What legacy would you like to leave?

That I help to build the middle class, by helping them get jobs, training and owning their own homes. I help to clean up the environement in the 4th district for future generations.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

The 1967 Detroit rebellion when I was 17 years old.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

I worked for City of Detroit Youth Employment program for 6 summers

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

Spiderman/Black Panther, T'Challa

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

Get up Stand Up by Bob Marley

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

The transition of my last immediate family member and baby brother on April 8, 2020. I know how to overcome life's challenges.

Are there any little-known powers or responsibilities held by this office that you believe more people should be aware of?

1. Managing the budget

2. Investigate the city agencies, when necessary

3. An effective councilmember listens to their constituents and offers the right solutions

Do you believe that it's beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?

Yes, It helps to be familiar with how government works as aprevious precinct delegate for many years and 6 years as a council staff member

What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?

Some political, leadership, communication and community organizing experience. As a Licensed Social Worker, I know how to work with different kinds of people and personalities.
