Hi, my name is Angela! I’m originally from Michigan but moved to the Redmond/Kirkland area over 20 years ago. My family loves living in such a beautiful diverse community with so much to do. I have two teenagers who are in 10th and 12th grade and have attended LWSD since Kindergarten.

I have a Masters in Social Work and worked for DSHS for many years in the foster care system. My family also had the privilege of being a foster family for a number of years. I am passionate about the child welfare system and improving it for the children and families we serve.

I am currently a stay at home parent and volunteer for the LWSD as a lunch buddy mentor and for the pantry packs program. I feel strongly that we all have a responsibility to contribute to the community we receive so much from. We all have different strengths and skills and everyone is valuable and needed!

On the fun side, I enjoy playing soccer and watching all sports (especially women’s soccer). I also love dogs and have worked in animal rescue over the years. I am partial to pugs!
  • Supporting the mental health of students and staff is essential to supporting their success in our schools. We live in a district known for its academic rigor and competitiveness. This brings opportunity but it can also create real pressure and stress. In the 2023 Healthy Youth Survey, over one in ten adolescents in the LWSD reported to have seriously considered suicide in the last year. I’m committed to making youth mental health a priority by advocating for trauma-informed practices in our schools. I’m encouraged that these conversations are already underway in our district and will continue pushing to ensure these practices are embraced in all school environments.
  • Nearly 10% of the students in our district come from low-income households. If families don’t have what they need at home, it becomes incredibly difficult for students to focus, learn and thrive in the classroom. Students from low-income backgrounds often face systemic barriers that impact their educational outcomes. I’m committed to removing obstacles that prevent families from accessing help. This means partnering with the incredible community organizations already doing this work and listening directly to families themselves. What do you need? How can we help? When schools and communities work together, everyone benefits.
  • One of the things I love most about the Lake Washington School District is the variety of options available to students and families. We’re not all meant to follow the same path—and that’s what makes our community vibrant and dynamic. I’m committed to supporting the many unique journeys our students take by helping families better understand the incredible opportunities our district provides. These options begin as early as elementary school with choice programs and parent partnerships, and extend through high school with programs like Running Start and WANIC. While many students benefit from these pathways, too many families are still unfamiliar or unclear about what’s available. Let’s change that!
I think my top interests are in the education and social policy areas. We need to be adequately funding education and providing relevant services that help kids and families be successful AND feel a sense of belonging.

In partnership with this, addressing social inequities (which deeply impacts education) is very important. This includes supporting affordable housing, continuing to address and acknowledge the impact of systemic oppression, and providing quality community mental health.
I think an ability to understand and respect a perspective that is not your own is very important. That doesn’t mean agree with it, but holding space for someone else’s lived experience is deeply meaningful.
My first job was at a small family owned pet store in Mid Michigan. I applied the day I turned 15. I grew up unable to have most animals because of allergies in my family. I jumped at this opportunity as soon as I was legally allowed. I absolutely loved the responsibility I was given and was quickly the top “bird lady” in the store. I had this job until I went to college at 18 but continued to work there over breaks for the first couple of summers.

I’m always happy to talk about and answer any questions about parrots!! African Greys are my favorite.
“Where do you take your car when the accelerator is broken?” “The Hos-PEDAL” (I made this up as a kid)
