Angelina Mojica is the chair of the Building Strong Families Committee and participates in several other non-profit committees with focus on the aid, support, and protection of children and families in the Lubbock community.

As a community leader, Angelina is concerned about the impacts school closures have on students, teachers, and neighborhoods. This not only affects the school that has closed, but the schools receiving new students. She believes part of good stewardship includes exhausting all resources and providing creative solutions to complex challenges. “In order to improve LISD, there must be accountability and advocacy that benefits all children”.

A graduate of Lubbock High School class of ’94 and Lubbock Christian University, she holds a master’s degree in human services and specializes in the psychology of childhood trauma and mental health. Angelina is the mother of three children, all of whom have benefitted from education in Lubbock public schools. Her youngest son currently attends Coronado High School as a sophomore.
  • Following the Dupre closure, I felt called to act. I am concerned about the impacts school closures have on students, teachers, and neighborhoods. This not only affects the school that has closed, but the schools receiving new students. I believe part of good stewardship includes exhausting all resources and providing creative solutions to complex challenges. To improve LISD there must be accountability and advocacy that benefits all children. I believe the best way to change our future is to start now through the empowerment of teachers and families to enable the future of our children.
  • supporting teachers and actively seeking out their expertise. They are the backbone of the schools and frontline workers for education. Knowing their experiences and ideas will help me get them the tools they need to create success in the classroom. We are at risk of losing our best teachers. Not only do we need to keep our teachers from leaving, but more than that, we need them to feel valued as central and essential to success. They have real ideas to help solve educational challenges.
  • Prevent school closures: Making such consequential decisions such as closing schools without adequate consultation with stakeholders will not happen on my watch. I understand that as a school district and city that “we are all in this together”. Strong schools build strong communities.
My public policy that I am most passionate about is transparency in communication, advocacy for teachers, students, and parents, and networking of community resources. I would like to see more efficient methods of communication when giving information from top down.

I would like to advocate for the connection of community and schools to help initiate community support through the collaboration of resources for all Lubbock school districts. I would like to see the support of teachers, students, and parents through the resources provided helping mitigate stressors that will enable teachers to focus on their intended goal which is to provide a well balance education.

Thus, I offer accessibility by ensuring that I will be available to LISD constituents and stakeholders by engaging in a routine schedule of communication that is in location and time most conducive to those we serve.
As a leader in the community there should be a skill set to think and act towards future growth. A successful leader should have five major virtues: Discipline, Trustworthiness, Courage, Humaneness, and Wisdom.

A good leader is one who is capable to take decisions, determined to work for the betterment of community, has the willingness to manage and rectify issues and importantly stand up for what is right. There should be no worry about position, power, and authority. There should always be goal to work towards growth of the community and value those we serve.

Keep in mind as a political leader in the community, they are a public servant who works for the betterment of the community. Elected by the members of the community, not a politician. Standing up for what is right regardless of outcomes.
School board governs the district, but it does so with the advice of the superintendent. Local school board responsibilities to adopt goals and priorities and monitor success; adopt policies and review for effectiveness; hire and evaluate the superintendent; adopt a budget and set a tax rate; communicate with the community.
911 was the first historical event that I can recall, I remember because I was 9 months pregnant with my daughter and witnessed the events on television while on bed rest . I was 25 years old at the time.
The main function of the school board is to provide local, citizen governance and oversight of education.
Every child, parent, staff member and business in the Lubbock ISD district.
Firstly through representation. I am Latina woman. I am not the majority. Second through my education I understand the needs of minorities and the underrepresented populations. I can listen and ask questions and speak to prominent stakeholders for these communities as well.
Neighborhood Associations; LISD facility and administration; Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA); Lubbock Chamber of Commerce; City Council. I would be actively engaged in ongoing communication with stakeholders, organizations, and other community entities who are focused on the prosperity of children's education and in support of a thriving school district.
Some qualities of a good teaching include skills in communication, listening, collaboration, adaptability, empathy and patience. Other characteristics of effective teaching include an engaging classroom presence, value in real-world learning, exchange of best practices and a lifelong love of learning. This will be measured by classroom attendance, the increase participation in school activities, and the moral/atmosphere of the school environment.
I love the programs at the ATC and the initiatives the district is already taking, my son is an active participant in the welding program and is making plans to start his own business once he graduates and completes his college program.
Decision with community leaders, working together with city council and the mayors office.
I believe in inclusive involvement I would again make my self present and known in the community through several community engagements, host opportunities such as town halls or events that would help encourage parents to become acquainted with LISD trustees.
