My approach to judging is grounded in careful preparation, close attention to the law, and respect for every person who comes before the court. I believe judicial decision-making requires listening first, understanding the full context of each case, and applying established law consistently and fairly.
I take seriously the responsibility entrusted to the court by the people of Washburn County. My goal is to ensure that cases move forward thoughtfully and efficiently, with close attention to the facts, careful legal reasoning, and consistent application of the law. Above all, I work to maintain public confidence in a fair and impartial judicial system.- Judging is not about outcomes or efficiency alone, but about the process used to reach decisions. Careful preparation, thoughtful consideration of the record, and faithful application of the law are central to a judiciary that is fair, impartial, and worthy of public trust.
- My time on the bench and within the justice system, as an assistant district attorney, district attorney, and now as a judge, has taught me that sound judicial decisions require a complete understanding of how cases move from start to finish. Serving in different legal roles before joining the bench has shaped my approach as a judge and helps ensure that cases are handled responsibly, with attention to both the law and the practical realities of the courtroom.
- For me, judicial service is rooted in responsibility to the people and communities the court serves. I approach each case with care and respect, mindful that judicial decisions affect real people and their families. Public trust in the courts is built through consistency, fairness, and a steady commitment to impartial decision-making grounded in the record.
