As a lifelong West Virginian who has lived the "West Virginia Experience," I have witnessed the struggles our families endure firsthand. My mother, tirelessly juggling two jobs, tragically passed away at the age of 56. Meanwhile, my father, employed in a sawmill, suffered disability as a result of that being the only gainful employment available in our local area. These personal experiences exposed me directly to the challenges our fellow West Virginians confront daily. I am the only native West Virginian running for this seat, and I believe I offer the best opportunity for regular West Virginian's to have their voices heard on the issues that affect them every day from issues concerning privacy, to the need for affordable childcare and guaranteed paid leave from work, to improving vocational and educational support in our public schools. I am willing to put forth the effort to help those in our communities who do the most: our Firefighters, EMTs, Guardsmen, Teachers, and other public servants; while protecting West Virginia families from an increased tax burden and fighting for West Virginia businesses in a way that actually helps them. I believe it is these values and experiences define me as a person in this race.
  • Supporting Our Heroes: Firefighters and EMTs in West Virginia encounter obstacles like funding shortages, high turnover rates, and inadequate equipment. Many local fire departments lack essential equipment like tankers, while EMTs require over 250 additional ambulances statewide. I will fight for pay raises and increased hazard pay for deployed guardsmen- no matter where they are when the are putting their lives and bodies on the line for our safety and freedom. Given the diverse risks faced by our heroes I want a state mandate requiring insurance companies to cover all health services fully for these brave volunteers. Addressing these issues at the state level is imperative and this is only a few of my initiatives in this policy area.
  • Taxes Matter: The state's $750 million long-term budget deficit, compounded by a lack of oversight failure leading to substantial funding returns of nearly a billion dollars out of Education and DHHR funds, threatens West Virginia's families and businesses. I oppose all proposed tax increases by the State Legislature, particularly on gasoline and food. These measures burden residents and hinder economic growth while disproportionately impacting vulnerable families, and seniors, who are already grappling with financial challenges. I also oppose continued tax breaks for out of state corporations and would instead direct that money towards local West Virginian small businesses.
  • Accessible Child Care and Paid Family Leave: No one should risk losing a paycheck by taking time to care for family, a newborn, or themselves. The greatest expense for a majority of West Virginia families is child care. Ensuring quality child care throughout West Virginia serves two incredibly important purposes — preparing the next generation during their most critical developmental stages, and increasing our workforce participation rates for parents. An equitable paid leave program works for both employers and employees, and ensures worker retention, work-life balance, and shows that we value families and their futures. Making childcare an affordable and professional service should be one of the most important goals for us as a State.
My passion about public policy comes from the fact that Firefighters, EMS, Teachers, Librarians, etc. sacrifice so much for their trades and are the linchpin holding our communities together that it is too easy for us to overlook the impact they make and how that is connected to the struggles we face as we need to increase vocational support in schools, lend a helping hand to the families who struggle to see their kids due to work, and the unprecedented amount of seniors who have had to stay in the workforce to survive. For me these public policy problems are connected and my passion is in working to make people aware of how helping any of these groups helps us all and betters our communities.
Work Ethic:

I see far too many people who are elected be politicians instead of public servants. They get swept up in the pomp and gala of it all and forget that they are there to work. I am here walking my entire district and trying to knock on 6,000 doors before election day to show that I am not in this for the glory but because I genuinely want to help people.
Integrity:

We have had numerous politicians elected in this state who are too willing to throw out their ideals for political expedience. That doesn't help strengthen American democracy and that isn't who I am. I have a handful of core values that I am running on that I hope people understand are important. Other than that I promise to listen and represent my district as a public servant.
Read, Write, and Understand Laws & the roles of the Branches of Government:

The primary responsibility of a member of the State Legislature is to read, write, and understand laws. This has proven quite difficult for many of our elected officials recently, our Attorney General has filed numerous frivolous lawsuits that have cost tax payers millions, our Secretary of State was embroiled in numerous lawsuits related to his inability to run his office despite the office being the responsible for handling business, and our legislators cost us a billion dollars this year because they forgot to budget a billion dollars to DHHR and for education. As a parliamentarian I know and understand in great detail the operations of the chambers and how best to conduct business and make change in them. This is a skill that will also prove useful in providing accountability for my constituents and the citizens of West Virginia.

Accountability:
Despite the fact that we have a "part-time" legislature in West Virginia I believe it is important the legislators hold regular public meetings, townhalls, and forums to provide details to the public and to seek guidance from their constituents. This is the process of holding legislators accountable to actually representing the public. Too many of our legislators have a problem being accountable for their actions when they consistently dodge their constituents and take large sums of money from lobbyists and out of state corporations.

To Not Be Bribed, Extorted, or Corrupt:

To make sure that I am executing the will of my constituents and not be bribed, extorted, or corrupted by lobbyists and out-of-state corporations one has to act responsibly and with ethics at the forefront of their consideration at all times. This is an area that I will not only seek to excel in personally but also legislatively with changes to make sure legislators, including myself, are behaving appropriately with money and influence.
That a government ran by regular citizens, with the interest of regular citizens in mind, can work for and improve the lives of its citizens.
Executives at all levels of Government have grown too powerful. The legislature is meant to be the voice of the people and it is the duty of legislators to make workable laws and to provide funding and oversite while it is the role of the Executive to execute those laws within their references.
This is a professional working body- those in it should act as such. Anyone incapable of that is doing a disservice to their constituents. We have to be able to work together to make laws and anyone who believes it would not be beneficial to understand that I would seriously question their fitness for holding public office.
While out knocking on doors I spoke to a registered republican who has a son serving as a firefighter in the state national guard. When I explained that I was running to help improve the quality of life of, and to provide better support to, our firefighters and guardsmen he actually started to cry. He spoke about how he had never voted for a democrat but he would be voting for me because I was actually running on issues that matter to real people instead of the usual political drama. It did a lot to instill some courage in me that these issues will make a real difference in people's lives and will go a long way towards improving our state.
A bill to provide for a State Constitutional Amendment to guarantee a West Virginia Citizen's Right to Privacy. The Supreme Court has begun to strip away the rights of American Citizens in regards to privacy and we have seen more than a dozen state level executives use that as leverage to gain access to the records of private citizens without consent or warrants. If elected I will propose the establishment of a State Constitutional Amendment to install a Right to Privacy in the State Constitution to protect the rights of every West Virginian Citizen’s to have privacy and agency of their person, records, home, and belongings at all times. A government has no right to intervene on your property or against your person without going through the Court’s and proving just cause. If the Federal Government is refusing to fulfill this critical right then we must do so at the State Level.
Some of my endorsements include AFL-CIO and the United Automotive, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America.

Fire Departments and Emergency Medical Services Committee:

So much of my agenda is about tackling the problems faced by firefighters and EMS from: establishing a state and federal grants coordinator and new state grant programs to help emergency services get the equipment they need like tankers and ambulances statewide, while working with the Banking and Insurance Committee to create a state mandate requiring insurance companies to cover mental and medical health services fully for these brave volunteers. Furthermore, a centralized database of local institutions providing these services and a full-time coordinator position would streamline access to support services and help ensure the well-being of our public emergency servants. I would also leverage this committee to work with the House Pensions and Retirement Committee to create and improve guaranteed retirement and death benefit programs for Fire, EMS, and Guardsmen across the state.

.
Our state has greatly weakened the ability of citizens to make sure their government and government officials are operating within the best practices of financial transparency and government accountability. I would work hard to increase citizen's tools for holding their government accountable. I would also work to tighten campaign finance laws and burden lobbyists' ability to corrupt legislative officials with bribes, job offers, and gifts any way I could.
Allowing citizen's more access to impact the law making process is a good thing in my opinion.
