Anjali Kausar was an at-large member of the Cupertino Union School District Board of Education in California. She was first appointed to the board in 2009.[1] Kausar did not file to run for re-election in 2018.

Kausar works as an executive director at the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce and as a realtor for Intero Real Estate Services. She has served on the California School Boards Association, the Santa Clara County School Boards Association, the Asian Pacific Islander School Board Members Association and California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson’s Education Technology Task Force. Kausar earned her bachelor's degree in health sciences and her master's degree in health administration at Wichita State University. She earned a second master's degree in policy organization leadership studies from Stanford University. Kausar and her husband have three children, all of whom have attended school in the Cupertino Union School District.[2][3]

Three at-large seats were up for election on the Cupertino Union School District Board of Education on November 4, 2014. Incumbent Anjali Kausar ran against challengers Kristen Pan Lyn, Chris Zhang and Soma McCandless.[4] Kausar won her bid for re-election. Lyn and McCandless were elected to the remaining two seats.

The 2014 general election was the first time the Cupertino Union School District elected board of education members in an even-numbered year. Prior to 2014, school board elections were held during odd-numbered years.[5]

Funding

Kausar reported $1,496.00 in contributions and $2,939.70 in expenditures to the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters as of October 18, 2014. In addition to her existing balance of $3,069.46, that left her campaign with $1,625.76 cash on hand at that time.[6]
