Justice Ann McClure

By Jimmy Ardis
EL PASO,Texas: Justice Ann McClure was appointed by Governor Rick Perry as Chief Justice of Texas's Eighth Court of Appeals on September 20th. When she takes office on October 12th Justice McClure will become the first female chief in the court's 100-year existence.[1] She will replace current chief David Chew, who recently announced that he was resigning effective October 11th. Governor Perry appointed former Texas District 168 judge Chris Antcliff to fill McClure's seat as she steps up.

Judge McClure said she was "thrilled and delighted" to become chief. Speaking on the milestone appointment, McClure noted "During the last 20 years, we've seen tremendous diversity on the bench...Up until the early 1980s, the bench was limited to Anglo males."[1]

McClure has served on the Eighth Court of Appeals since 1995. Prior to her election she worked in private practice for almost 15 years. McClure received her law degree from the University of Houston School of Law in 1979.[1]
