An effort to recall township supervisor Ann Nieuwenhuis in Comstock Township, Michigan from her position was launched in July 2014.[1] The petition did not gather enough signatures to force a recall election in November.[2] Organizers had a second chance to get the issue on the May 2015 ballot if they turned in enough signatures by November 30, but they were unable to.[3]

Comstock Township residents Mike and Lisa White spearheaded the recall effort. They alleged that Nieuwenhuis required Mike White to pay for a sign permit that was unnecessary and then refused to refund his money.[1]

Petitioners needed to collect 1,260 signatures by August 1 to get the recall on the general election ballot. The petition was initially approved on April 14 and the language will remain valid until October 11. Supporters only gathered 630 signatures by the deadline. They could have gotten the issue on the May 2015 ballot by gathering enough signatures by November 30. The group did not collect enough signatures to move the new effort forward.[3]
