Recall reports

An effort to recall Anna Hendricks from her position on the seven-member Allendale Public School District Board of Education in Michigan did not go to a vote in 2023. The petition language was rejected in a clarity hearing on September 12, 2023.[1][2][3][4]

Three previous recall petitions against Hendricks were rejected in clarity hearings on July 10, 2023, June 20, 2023, and May 17, 2023. A fourth was withdrawn from the petitioner on August 31, 2023.[3][5][6][7][8]

Recall supporters

The fifth recall petition filed against Hendricks mentioned her vote to withdraw the school district from the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) and to instead join the National School Board Leadership Council. The full board voted to stay with MASB.[1]

The recall petition that was filed against Hendricks in June 2023 stated:[6]

Anna Hendricks has displayed a pattern of acting outside of the best interests for Allendale Public Schools (APS) and its stakeholders. She has shown this by participating in a group text thread with 3 other APS board members where on December 26, 2022 she shared the following proposed actions: replacing the district’s legal counsel with Kallman Legal Group and terminating the district’s relationship with the Michigan Association of School Boards. These actions were proposed publicly at a January 9, 2023 APS Board of Education (BOE) meeting where Ms. Hendricks voted against giving 3 remaining APS BOE members more than one day to review the proposed actions. Further, she has failed to acknowledge the electronic quorum the group text thread established.[9]

The recall petition that was filed against Hendricks in May 2023 stated:[5]

On 1/9/2023, Anna Hendricks lied during a school board meeting stating that she had the same amount of time, 24 hours, as all other board members to review a motion to change legal counsel. As early as 11/21/2022 and through at least 1/7/2023, Anna Hendricks engaged in private conversations with two new and one current APS Board Member regarding the change in legal counsel. This directly violates the Michigan Open Meetings Ate which requires the Board meet in public when four or more members are present and/or if discussing matters that lead to a decision.[9]

Recall opponents

Hendricks spoke against the recall petitions in the clarity hearings on May 17, 2023, and June 20, 2023. She denied the allegations that she had broken the Michigan Open Meetings Act.[5][6]
