I'm Anna Thomas. I was born and raised in the Lehigh Valley. I entered public service as a Student Representative on the Bethlehem Area School District school board. Currently, I serve on the Planning Commission in Bethlehem Township. Now, I am running for State House in Pennsylvania’s 137th House District (Bethlehem Township, the Nazareth Area, Tatamy Borough, and parts of Hanover and Palmer Township). As a State Representative for this area, my lifelong home, I will stand up for all of our workers, students, and retirees by fighting for democratically-accountable governance, social equity, and better funding for our schools and infrastructure.
  • Every Pennsylvanian should have the right to make their own reproductive healthcare decisions. Your state legislator does not belong in your and your loved ones’ reproductive healthcare and family planning decisions. I will defend the right of Pennsylvanians to make their own family planning decisions without government interference. I will also stand up to politicians who want to impose restrictions on birth control or fertility treatments for couples trying to have a baby.
  • I believe in fairness.

Senior citizens and middle class families carry too much of the tax burden in Pennsylvania. Wealthy individuals and highly profitable corporations should pay their fair share. I want to close the loopholes that have been put in the tax code by politicians doing favors for their industry friends. I’ll take on powerful special interests that get special treatment, and vote to ban lobbyists from giving gifts to state legislators.

I support a school fair funding bill so that public schools in the Bethlehem Area, Nazareth Area, and Easton Area school districts can provide quality services that are currently underfunded.
  • Our public servants need to work together toward a bright future. My top priorities as a legislator center on improving quality of life and quality of public services for all Pennsylvanians. I believe that the growth of infrastructure and green energy in the next couple of decades is going to be a huge opportunity to create good-paying jobs for people with a wide variety of different skills– and that the state government needs to play a proactive role in ensuring that those projects and jobs come to Pennsylvania! There are shared areas of concern across the state, and I want to align with representatives no matter where they are in Pennsylvania to address these basic quality of life issues.
1. Protecting reproductive freedom in Pennsylvania, and specifically, protecting the right to an abortion. Every person in Pennsylvania must have complete agency surrounding their own family planning decisions.

2. Closing tax loopholes that exist at the state level that enable multi-state and multinational corporations to avoid paying taxes in Pennsylvania, by enacting policies like combined reporting.

3. Passing a Fair Funding bill for our public schools to tackle educational inequality. Furthermore, this issue creates an overreliance on local property taxes as a school funding source in the Lehigh Valley. This is inherently regressive and puts undue burden on our local taxpayers, many of whom are retired or on a fixed income.
I think that the core responsibility for an elected official, and especially a state legislator, is maintaining strong working relationships with constituents and community organizations. I want to host regular town halls and continue to canvass my neighbors, even after getting elected, so that I can bring good governance to their front doors. I want people to have a good relationship with their government and I want the government to serve them well. This process not only builds a more participatory, accessible democracy, but enables trust between government and constituents to build a more fair and responsive government for all.

Anna Thomas was born and raised in Bethlehem Township, and is a K-12 graduate of the Bethlehem Area School District. She served on the School Board of the Bethlehem Area School District from 2011-2013, as the Student Representative for Freedom High School. Anna received her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Wellesley College, where she was on the NCAA championship rowing team. She went on to earn a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Pennsylvania, and did research for her thesis in partnership with the Philadelphia Police Department. While at Penn, she also conducted research into ways American industry can expand energy production while reducing environmental impact.
  • Anna will fight wasteful government spending. Senior citizens and middle class families carry too much of the tax burden in Pennsylvania. Wealthy individuals and highly profitable corporations should pay their fair share. Anna wants to close the loopholes that have been put in the tax code by politicians doing favors for their industry friends. She’ll take on powerful special interests that get special treatment, and vote to ban lobbyists from giving gifts to state legislators.
  • Politicians should stay out of our personal lives. Anna will defend the right of Pennsylvanians to make their own family planning decisions without government interference. She will stand up to those in Harrisburg who want to make radical changes to our abortion laws, and politicians who now want new restrictions on birth control and even fertility treatments for couples trying to have a baby.
  • Anna Thomas will focus on the economy. A highly-skilled workforce is essential for a strong economy, so she’ll expand vocational training and keep tuition affordable at our public universities and community colleges. Anna supports investing in infrastructure to improve our quality of life and make Pennsylvania a great place to do business. By modernizing roads, bridges and rail across Pennsylvania, we can attract cutting-edge businesses that create good-paying jobs for families to achieve a secure place in the middle class. She will also ensure we get our fair share of state funding for public schools in the Bethlehem, Easton, and Nazareth Area School Districts, so that we attract the best talent to live, work, and raise their families in t
Anna will be a Representative who is open to good ideas, whether they come from Democrats or Republicans. She wants to serve the people of our community, not the agenda of any political party or special interest group that wields power in Harrisburg. Like many in our community, Anna is fed up with extreme politicians who are more focused on fighting ideological battles than solving problems for our community. Anna will work with both Republicans and Democrats to get things done.
