Campbell-Washington holds a B.S. in Industrial Management/Graphic Communications Management from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.P.P from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley. Her professional experience includes working as the Director of Operations & Special Projects at the Stuart Foundation in San Francisco and as the Executive Director of the I Have A Dream Foundation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was also the Chief of Staff to former Oakland mayor Jerry Brown and current mayor Jean Quan.[1]

City council elections in Oakland took place on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline was August 8, 2014.[3] In District 4, Anne Campbell Washington defeated Jill Broadhurst and Paul Lim.[4][5] Incumbent Elizabeth "Libby" Schaaf did not run for re-election, because she ran for mayor.
