What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
Controlling the Budget: Connecticut needs to change its approach to spending. We should be proactive rather than reactive. We need to set spending priorities for the future and invest in those priorities, instead of waiting to spend reactively as crises arise. We can create an environment that supports the growth of small businesses and entrepreneurial ventures. We can help develop partnerships between business and education so that we are preparing people for a 21st century work economy. And, we can make smart investments in transportation and infrastructure to revitalize our cities and promote economic growth. Jobs & the Economy: I am ready to go to Hartford and put in the hard work to create good jobs by supporting local businesses, grow our economy by fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, and ensure our state's infrastructure can sustain and support a modern economy. To invest in small businesses, we must create a new approach to economic development that stops giving money away to large corporations and creates good jobs by cutting red tape and providing small businesses with the tools and freedom to grow and succeed. We need to foster innovation and entrepreneurship to grow our industries by providing the right incentives to attract new businesses to Connecticut and encouraging collaboration between industry and our academic institutions. Additionally, we cannot expect to grow our economy when our roads, bridges, and railways can't meet the modern needs of emerging businesses. It's time we get serious and invest in the infrastructure repair and modernization our state needs. Affordable Health Care: With reforms in health care being reversed at the federal level, it is incumbent upon the state government to safeguard the health care protections we all rely on. I believe Connecticut should consider some progressive reforms to build a comprehensive state health care system to safeguard against the loss of protections in federal legislation. We can act at the state level and be on the proactive end of health care reform. Everybody deserves quality health care; it's time to get moving on this front.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I'm passionate about accessibility to quality education for all. I also passionately support health care initiatives that offer full access to women's health, including reproductive health choices; better access for drug addiction prevention and treatment programs; and expanded coverage for mental health care.
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Social Contract
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Honesty, Integrity, Empathy
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
I'm running for state representative because I believe in a government that cares about people and community and is willing to invest in our priorities. I represent an honest and independent perspective that will challenge the status quo in Hartford and bring a more thoughtful and cooperative quality to legislative deliberations. We all need to work together to solve the pressing issues for the people of Connecticut.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job was delivering papers with my older brother every morning when I was 9 years old.
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. I love an entire day devoted to bringing friends & family together for a bountiful meal of thanks.
If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
I would like to be assigned to the Education committees, as this is my area of experience and expertise.
