An effort to recall Annette Acre from her position as secretary of the Mapaville Fire Protection District Board of Directors in Missouri was launched in March 2018 over the firing of then-district volunteer Chief Darryl Reed. The recall petition also accused Acre of incorrectly or failing to record and post meeting minutes. Acre denied the allegations against her, saying, "There’s nothing in that petition that is true."

After recall proponents submitted enough signatures, a recall election was scheduled for November 6, 2018. The fire district board said it would file a lawsuit to challenge the recall petition and block the recall election. "There are errors and misrepresentations in the way the petition was represented to people," said Mapaville Fire Chief Andy Brown.[1][2] On August 24, Circuit Court Judge Victor Melenbrink ruled that the petition seeking the recall did not comply with state law and signed an order canceling the election.[3]
