Biography
Annette Owens was born in Ogden, Utah. She earned a high school diploma from Basic High School. Owens also earned a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and graduate degrees from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Sierra Nevada University. Her career experience includes working as an education advocate.[1]

Annette attended Kindergarten through 12th grade in the Clark County School District and went on to earn an undergraduate degree in Zoology, a Masters in Education from UNLV, and a Masters in Administration from Sierra Nevada University. Annette has been appointed by the last three mayors to serve on Henderson's Community Education Advisory Board, since its inception, and serves on a Charter School Board as well as My Brother’s Keeper Education Equity Task Force. She completed Georgetown's Executive Leadership through the Public Education Foundation, Henderson Leadership, is grateful to be a 2020 Jameson Fellow and serve on Compassionate Las Vegas' Steering Committee. Annette is also certified in Mind Body Medicine and works regularly at the Clark County Detention Center with women who have been incarcerated in order to give them and also others in the community, health and wellness support.
In her free time she enjoys exploring the great outdoors.- Improving education outcomes for students through safe effective schools. Annette has devoted her life to teaching children and fighting to ensure they have every resource available to them, regardless of their circumstances, It is nearly impossible for students to learn in an environment they don't feel safe in. She will push for legislation that keeps our schools safe, and helps support students through high quality instruction and needed interventions, in order to graduate fully prepared and be successful, productive community members.
- Economic security for families Families are living paycheck to paycheck and resorting to increased credit card debt. Nevada families need an additional $13,296 to afford the same standard of living they had in January 2021. We need to provide relief, where we can, to give residents the breathing room to regain their financial footing. This means growing and diversifying our economy to provide long-term economic stability and increased wages. Additionally, we must look to provide short-term help through targeted tax relief options. We can't solve the inflation crisis created by our federal government, but we can work to ease the pain and help our citizens that are in need.
- Access to health care for families and children Nevada ranks near the bottom in both health services and mental health support. The need to prioritize incentives to attract the needed professionals to ensure we can deliver the services our communities desperate need. My plan would include a workforce signing bonus for hires willing to move to Nevada and tuitions assistance for students willing to pursue careers in our most needed fields.
Democrats, Republicans, Independents, all want a better future for our state. We may disagree on the solutions, but we know the problems. We need a better education system, better healthcare, a focus on public safety, and a more diverse economy. As your assemblywoman, Annette will not support the Republican idea or the Democrat idea, but the best idea for all Nevadans.
