2014
Brown's website highlighted the following campaign themes:
“ | Educating our Children:
As a former preschool teacher, school board president and proud parent of three I’ve seen the struggles educators and students face as districts try to do more with less. Due to the recent budget cuts to our local schools, our kids have more students in their classrooms, fewer books to read from and schools that are falling apart. We all know those setbacks will not prepare them for higher education or the workforce. Money won’t solve every problem facing our schools, but I will fight to prioritize our real needs and restore the funding that was taken away from critical areas so that our children have the resources they need to do well in school. Creating New Jobs: My husband is a small business owner and I see firsthand the struggles that workers and our small businesses face every day. We are living in difficult economic times, and I know that state government must spend our hard-earned tax dollars wisely. The tax increases of a year ago that are creating so many difficulties for families and senior citizens have not created the jobs supporters said they would. I will work with small businesses and fight for policies that will help them grow and create jobs. Our small businesses are important to our local economies and deserve as much consideration as we give to large corporations. I will also fight make Michigan a leader in new technologies that will help create the jobs of the future that our children will study and train for. “Small businesses are the backbone of a strong economy. That’s why we need to end tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas, and start helping small businesses create jobs.” – Annie Brown Making Government Work for Us: There’s no doubt that times are tough for families all across the state these days, which is why it’s more important than ever that we make every dollar work in the best interest of taxpayers. Government should be transparent and the citizens have a right to know how their tax dollars are being spent. That’s why I’ll go to Lansing and demand reform, transparency and accountability throughout state departments and at all levels of government. Lansing needs to work for us, not for corporate special interests.[9][10] |
