Anthony Brock is a Republican and a judge on the Clermont County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. He was elected in the general election on November 8, 2016.[1]

He was previously a judge on the Clermont County Municipal Court.

Brock was licensed to practice law in Ohio in 1993. He first worked as a law clerk and associate attorney at Faulkner & Tepe, LLP. He became an assistant prosecuting attorney for Clermont County in 1995. He served in this role until 2006, when he was appointed to the municipal court by Gov. Bob Taft (R).[2]

Selection method

The 391 judges of the Ohio Courts of Common Pleas are all selected in an identical manner. Qualified individuals wishing to join the bench must participate in partisan primary elections followed by nonpartisan general elections.[3]

The chief judges of the Ohio Courts of Common Pleas are chosen by peer vote and serve for one year.[3]

Qualifications
To serve on an appellate or general jurisdiction court, a judge must be:[3]

  • a district or county resident (for court of appeals and common pleas judges);
  • at least six years practiced in law; and
  • under the age of 70.

Under the Ohio Constitution, a judge who reaches 70 years of age may be assigned by the chief justice to active duty, receiving payment on a per-day basis in addition to whatever retirement benefits he or she is entitled to.

2011

Brock won his first full term on the municipal court in 2011.[2]

2007

In 2007, Brock won the remainder of the unexpired term to which he was appointed.[2]

2006

Gov. Bob Taft (R) appointed Brock to the municipal court in 2006 to fill a vacancy on the court's bench.[2]
