The city of Henderson, Nevada, held a primary election for mayor and city council on April 4, 2017. A general election was scheduled for June 13, 2017. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was February 2, 2017.
Incumbent Mayor Andy A. Hafen was not eligible to run for re-election due to term limits. The race for the Ward III seat on the city council advanced to the general election.[1] The following candidates ran in the primary election for mayor of Henderson.[2]

VISION 1: A Vet A Day! If elected Mayor of Henderson businesses can choose to sign a pledge to hire a vet. The goal is to hire 365 vets a year in Henderson businesses. This translates to A Vet A Day! VISION 2: Question 2 The people voted and Question 2 has been passed. The current moratorium inadvertently created a black market. I will fight to lift the current ban on question 2. VISION 3: Clean Energy New energy efficiency initiatives that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by cutting down electrical cost for all of our city buildings. Seek out grants for energy alternatives such as wind energy. VISION 4: Tax reform Tax from question 2 directly will affect our school system. Restructure Medical Marijuana tax to recreational and make Medical Marijuana tax free. Add additional 2.5% tax to recreational to build new Police, Fire, and Emergency response stations in newly developed areas of Henderson, NV. VISION 5: Zoning Revisit current residential and industrial zoning for Henderson. Inspire development for vacant lands. Work with community developers to revisit the decree from Housing of Urban Development HUD. VISION 6: Public Streets Infrastructure affects the life of Henderson. Improving public roads, increasing bike lanes, and reducing flooding in areas most affected. VISION 7: Education Good schools are important in the economic development, vitality, and image of the city. Many of our public schools need improvement. VISION 8: Jobs Stimulate economic growth by rethinking growth strategies. Promoting job growth within the community. VISION 9: Public Safety Promoting the building of Police, Fire and Emergency response stations to newly developed areas to ensure the goal of public safety.[4] |
