I’m a dedicated community advocate and a proud resident of Dayton, MN. With a diverse background and a passion for service, I will bring a unique perspective to the city council. I am an active member of Substance Church’s Westside Campus, which meets at Maple Grove Senior High. As a media technical director, I combine technical expertise with spiritual values to contribute meaningfully to the community. I served honorably in the US Army’s 1st Special Forces Group between 2001 and 2005. My commitment to duty, discipline, and teamwork has shaped my approach to community leadership. I hold a Ph. D in Rhetoric, Writing, and Culture from North Dakota State University. My academic background equips me with critical thinking skills and a deep understanding of communication. My love for words extends beyond academia. I frequently publish poetry about my travels and experiences in the military. A quick word of thanks thoughtfully scribbled in a greeting card is often welcomed by my friends. As a father of two adult children, I understand the importance of building a safe and thriving environment for families in Dayton. I am committed to creating opportunities for growth and prosperity.
  • Transparency, accountability, and service. The city government has lost the trust of the people and I aim to help the council become worthy of it through these three values. I want to help the council adopt technology for greater transparency, adopt a new code of conduct for accountability, and adopt an attitude of service over leadership.
  • Infrastructure leadership. We are growing rapidly and our plans do not reflect enough detail to guide that growth for the long-term good of the community. We need to have infrastructure in place where it needs to be for our projected growth. If we wait for developers to plan the community, we will have no say over where things go. We need to guide our growth to reduce potential pain points for citizens.
  • We need to invest in community amenities that make our community a desirable place to live. If we don’t, our level of owner occupancy will decrease and we will see lower property values. Those amenities should include a library, docks on the river, EV charging stations, and athletic fields.
I am passionate about quality of life for my constituents and servant leadership.
I would like to follow the example of FDR. In a time that could have been much worse for the U.S., he kept people working toward a better nation and the prosperity of the 1950’s was a direct result of that intervention.
Humility, understanding of nuance, and a desire to serve
I do not see myself as above my constituents. They are my neighbors and friends, not my followers.
Listen to the community and represent it’s values to third parties.
A bridge across the Mississippi, and several local schools.
I hand-fed calves for my neighbor. I did this for 4 years.
Brave New World. It shows the importance of agency in democracy.
I struggled to overcome poverty and a slow start in life.
You can improve infrastructure without raising taxes.
The council is responsible to actively seek to inform the community and seek public consent for decisions.
