I am a proud resident of the West Side, where I work as an attorney of a company that provides services to individuals with disabilities. I currently serve as the Representative for Utah House District 27, the area covering parts of Magna, Kearns, West Valley City, and Copperton. During the 2024 General Legislative Session, I served on the Criminal Code Subcommittee, the House Health and Human Services Committee, the House Judiciary Committee, and the Social Services Appropriations Subcommittee.

During the session, I sponsored and passed several pieces of legislation regarding health and human services, especially for disabled individuals; law enforcement and training for officers; and government transparency.

I am running for re-election because I believe that better government is about listening to the people, and I value serving my community very highly. Being a collaborative voice and building relationships with my colleagues across the ideological spectrum to better serve you, the people of Utah, has always been a top priority.
  • Over the course of my career, I have advocated for the rights and dignity of the disabled, both in and out of the Legislature. I am raising my family in the Salt Lake Valley because I strongly believe in Utah's values of family, faith, and prosperity. I want to preserve that quality of life for every West Side resident.
  • I am a strong defender of our west side infrastructure needs. There is a need for more affordable housing and development on the West Side, but we must grow in a way that won't strain our existing infrastructure. I have worked with local and statewide stakeholders to ensure that we receive the holistic funding we need.
  • Air pollution problems affect every resident on the West Side, but especially our at-risk groups. Cleaner air is not a partisan issue—it's a personal one. Many families, including my own, have children with severe allergies who cannot enjoy the outdoors when we have poor air quality. During my legislative service, I co-sponsored a bipartisan resolution on the environmental impact of vehicle idling in Utah. I will identify solutions to incentivize individuals and businesses to reduce pollution.
I am particularly invested in improving the quality of life for every west side resident, ensuring that we receive the resources of our east side counterparts, and promoting good representation for every resident—regardless of party affiliation, background, or zip code.
The most important principle that has guided my service is actively listening to community members. Our district is one of the most closely divided in the entire state. I won my last election by fewer than 100 votes. As a representative, I have recognized that my primary goal is to ensure that every community member feels they have a voice—whether or not they voted for me. In doing so, I have created connections with constituents from all walks of life and all perspectives. This principle has also extended to my service with my colleagues, where I am respected across the aisle for being a thoughtful and collaborative voice, including on controversial topics.
The core responsibility of someone elected to the Utah State House is to be productive, collaborative, and seek solutions for the district they represent. It is not to create a platform for self aggrandizement or petty politicking. I have worked to meet that core responsibility daily with my constituents, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
I would like every West Side resident to be able to have the same opportunities as those on the East Side. My goal is to create the conditions that allow everyone who lives here to be able to stay and live here and take part in the wonderful community we have in our part of the state.
I am proud to have the endorsement of bipartisan organizations and individuals who I have had the pleasure of serving with. These include: AFSCME Local 1004, American Federation of Teachers-Utah, Utah Education Association PAC, Operating Engineers Local 3, Professional Firefighters of Utah, Teamsters Local 222, Equality Utah, Utah Tech Leads, Utah Public Employees Association, Governing Group, and the Granite Education Association.

I believe in protecting the unalienable, God-given rights of life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness for every Utahn. My father was an immigrant from Mexico, who helped build my childhood home through sweat equity in its construction through a Habitat for Humanity-type program. I learned the value of hard work and helping others through my father's example.

When starting my family, I worked several odd jobs, including pest control, sales, financial planning, tax preparation, and insurance and investment services. I earned an associate degree from a community college and then a bachelor's degree in business management. Later on, I earned a law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University.

I serve as a Deputy Utah County Attorney in the civil division, assisting the Board of County Commissioners in drafting and amending county ordinances, negotiating sensible contracts among various cities, governmental entities, and businesses, and listening to and advocating for the needs of the people.

I have always had a goal to serve those around me and believe that being a house representative will allow me to utilize my skills to listen to and get results for my neighbors in House District 22.
  • Moving Education Forward - Utah schools should set the standard for education, not live up to it. We must pay our teachers what they deserve while promoting innovative ideas that improve our students' learning experience.
  • Responsible Growth and Infrastructure - We must bring all stakeholders together to create a plan for the west side of the Salt Lake Valley that protects our family neighborhoods and prepares us for the future.
  • Improving Tax Policies for Utahns - Our tax structure must allow businesses to grow and Utahns to thrive and families to do more than financially survive; we must enable them to prosper.
Improving and Innovating Education:

Quality education is essential and should be one of the issues at the forefront of discussion. I will work with teachers, parents, school board members, and all other stakeholders to improve our educational system's effectiveness and efficiency. We must provide better pay for our hardworking teachers without further complicating their jobs by adding more bureaucracy and government standards. Utah should set the standard of education, not meet it.

Here are some other priorities I have with education:
- Invest in technology that improves the learning experience for our students, and better prepares them for their next step.
- Continue building on innovative changes during COVID-19 to improve the learning environment for our children creatively.
- Protect parental rights to ensure parents can make impactful decisions and choose the best possible education for their children's future.

Responsible Growth and Infrastructure:
There has been much discussion about development on the west side. However, this will cause some strain on our existing infrastructure. Too much focus on high-density housing will lead to increased demand for water and a need for more comprehensive roads, schools, hospitals, and other services. I support fiscal and responsible housing development to address our current needs and provide more affordable housing while not overloading our existing neighborhoods.

State representatives need to plan responsibly.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Utah

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
