Anthony Ostry, a resident of Milwaukee County in Wisconsin, filed a complaint concerning the John Doe investigations related to Scott Walker with the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB) that was never investigated.[1][2]
John Doe investigations
In February 2014, one of the targets of the second of the John Doe investigations related to Scott Walker, Eric O'Keefe, filed a federal lawsuit stating that the investigation was used as an instrument to shut down conservative speech and, therefore, violated the targets' First Amendment rights.
In the lawsuit, O'Keefe cited a number of cases related to Democratic organizations that either weren't investigated or were dismissed to prove the John Doe investigations were politically biased. In May 2012, Ostry filed a complaint with the Government Accountability Board (GAB) through attorney Michael D. Dean, alleging that the AFL-CIO sent Ostry an express advocacy mail piece. Ostry is not a member of the AFL-CIO. By sending the mailing to non-members, some argue, the labor union violated campaign finance statutes. The complaint was never followed up on by the GAB, and no investigation was conducted.[2]
