Antonio Álvarez Medrano was a candidate for an at-large seat on the West Contra Costa Unified School District school board in California. Medrano was defeated in the at-large general election on November 8, 2016.

Medrano previously served on the board. He was elected to the board in 2008, but was defeated in his bid for re-election on November 6, 2012.[1]

Medrano is a retired teacher. He taught for 40 years at the high school and community college level. He was elected chair of the Berkeley/North East Bay Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Northern California in 2012. Medrano served on three different school site councils in the West Contra Costa Unified School District. He also served on the district's citizen's bond oversight committee and the budget advisory committee. In 2016, he served on the district's audit sub committee.[2]

Two of the five seats on the West Contra Costa Unified School District Board of Education were up for at-large general election on November 8, 2016. No incumbents filed to run for re-election, guaranteeing two new members joined the board. Former candidates Mister Phillips, Antonio Álvarez Medrano, and Ayana Kirkland Young and newcomers Don Gosney, Tom Panas, Miriam "Stephanie" Sequeira, and Carlos Taboada ran for the seats.[3] Phillips and Panas were elected to the board.[4]
