|- The United States Constitution was written to balance individual freedoms and governmental powers — it gave vast new powers to our government but it also aimed to sharply limit them. Unfortunately, in recent years, we have seen an astounding amount of legislation aimed at limiting the rights given to us by our Founding Fathers. We need actively combat any legislation that infringes on our rights — all of our rights — and most importantly, protect and defend those rights for future generations.
- Education is a cornerstone of any successful society and we must ensure that proper funding and attention is given to each and every school district in the nation. Unfortunately, Maryland has recently dropped in the national ranks for school success. We cannot allow our leadership to continue to pad their pockets with large donations from education lobby groups while our children and teachers are either used as bargaining chips or left behind. We have an obligation to make sure future generations receive equitable education with an emphasis on life skills.
- You work hard for your money, so why shouldn’t you be able to keep more of it? Far too often, our elected officials resort to raising taxes to solve our problems, furthering the financial burden millions of Americans struggle with every day. Instead of raising taxes, it’s time to start reforming the government that imposes those taxes in an effort for it to work better for the people and not the politicians. There is no excuse for tax documents to be so difficult for the average citizen — we need to simplify the process and enact flat-rate taxes with the hope that our tax system will become more equitable for the American People.
In my personal life, I look up to my parents. The ideals that lead my father to join the military and my mother to leave her home country, resonate deeply within me and play a big role in my goal to preserve the many opportunities and rights that the United States offers its citizens under the Constitution.
