Apollo Pazell was a 2016 Republican candidate for District 22 of the Utah House of Representatives. Prior to the primary election, Pazell and the other Republican candidate for District 22, Jamie White, ran against each other in the Utah Republican Convention. Neither candidate received the 60 percent vote threshold needed to avoid a primary, but Pazell later withdrew from the race and ultimately did not appear on the primary ballot.[1][2]

Issues

Political philosophy

Pazell made the following statement to Ballotpedia regarding his political philosophy:[3]

My primary focus is to achieve a more free and prosperous society. My basic philosophy is simple, if the answer is not more freedom, you are asking the wrong question. Innovation and sustainable solutions come from necessity and passion, I believe that the government at every level is responsible for removing obstacles, reducing unnecessary regulations, and protecting the security of individuals as they endeavor to improve their communities. I believe that the sharing economy has opened the doors to a world where individuals can improve their station with creativity, putting their assets and talents to work for them. Your leaders should understand that the choices you make with your money and your life are yours alone, provided that your choices do not negatively impact your community or other individuals. We must reform our tax code, work toward a consumption based tax rather than relying on income tax and property tax, choice in education through innovation, charters, and creative solutions should replace our current good money after bad, access to higher education comes in the form of competition and new ways of thinking about merit, private property rights should be a conduit to protecting the environment and personal economy, all of this can be accomplished by embracing innovation and liberty more fully.
