The Judicial Update

November 15, 2011

Washington: On Tuesday, November 15, Governor Chris Gregoire appointed King County Superior Court Judge Steven Gonzalez to be the newest justice on the Washington Supreme Court. Judge Gonzalez's appointment comes in the wake of Justice Gerry Alexander's mandatory retirement after reaching the age of 75. Judge Gonzalez has served on the superior court bench for nine years and says he knows each of his new colleagues from chairing the Access to Justice Board. Judge Gonzalez will be the second Latino judge appointed to the high court and, according to Governor Gregoire he has, “one of the most interesting life stories” of any judge she has appointed.[1]
