I'm a native of Boone County. I graduated from Sherman High School in 1993. Shortly after gradating from college, I returned home to work and raise my children.
  • I am committed to improving our communities.
  • I believe public schools are the great equalizer that will help all children, regardless of their economic status, to become successful. I am committed to ensuring every child has access to a high-quality educational opportunities.
  • Our infrastructure must be improved. Not only is it important to economic growth, it is important to the welfare and safety of our citizens.
I am passionate about strengthening public education and expanding our freedoms, rather than restricting them.
To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, taught me what it means to be courageous and to fight for what you believe. This excerpt from chapter 11 of the novel particularly resonates with me.

"She had her own views about things, a lot different from mine, maybe… son, I told you that if you hadn’t lost your head I’d have made you go read to her. I wanted you to see something about her—I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do."
I believe elected officials should be honest and transparent. I also believe that elected officials should be willing to work with those who may disagree with them politically. Reaching across the aisle and finding common ground is key to solving the problems we face.
I have several qualities that I believe would make me a successful officeholder. I am willing to work with anyone, regardless of party, to improve the lives of West Virginians. I put people over party. I am willing to listen to others and consider their perspectives in decision making. I am willing and capable of standing up to other people and am not easily intimidated.
There are several core responsibilities for a legislator. First, they must represent their constituents, not their donors. Second, any legislation introduced or voted on should be done with the understanding of how it will impact the community they represent. Additionally, legislators must communicate with those who elect them. They should provide regular updates to keep their constituents informed about what is happening in the legislative process.
My first historical event that I remember was the attempted assassination of Ronald Regan. I was five years old.
The ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature should be collaborative. It should involve open communication. Both should work to find common ground and solutions that benefit the citizens of West Virginia.
Experienced legislators understand how government and policy making work. Their experience should allow them to navigate the complexities involved in the legislative process. That said, I believe new voices can bring unique perspectives. What matters most is a commitment to improving the lives of West Virginians.
I believe it is incredibly beneficial to build relationships with other legislators. We can only address the challenges our communities face by working together.
There are many legislators I admire and take inspiration from but I cannot model myself after someone else. I have my own unique perspective that will help me represent the citizens of Boone County.
As a teacher, I hear stories daily about the challenges my students face. Their stories reinforce my commitment to public education and to finding a solution to the drug epidemic that has impacted our communities.
The legislature should provide oversight to ensure the emergency powers are necessary and being used effectively.
I would introduce a bill that increases oversight of students being educated outside of a public school setting. This is crucial to ensure those children are safe and being adequately educated.
I am most interested in committees dealing with education and families.
Financial transparency and government accountability are needed to prevent corruption. Citizens should be allowed to see where their tax dollars are going. They need to be able to hold their lawmakers accountable for the economic decisions they make. Accountability makes sure that elected officials are serving public interests instead of personal objectives.
