Sitting around the dining table, you often hear complaints about our government. Talk about how the government has forgotten rural areas. Working my way up thru the ranks, going above and beyond for my customers, coworkers and employers, I eventually became an executive chef at an assisted living facility. It exposed me to a whole segment of our population that is often forgotten, with their own unique set of concerns. I look around at this beautiful area we are privileged to call home and I see where we can do better for our people.
When I was younger, I spent years in the Girl Scouts. The Girl Scout promise reads “On my honor I will try, to serve God and my country, to help people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout Law” I can’t tell you how many times I have recited that. Serving by helping others is something I have done for as long as I can remember.
My above and beyond work ethic, can-do attitude combined with a common sense approach to keeping our small towns safe and secure, while still allowing for the growth needed to provide the young people of our community the opportunity to stay and raise their families here, and remain connected to their extended families in the area as well.- Expanded mental health services, including those for substance abuse
- Economically viable futures for our young people
- Safety and security for our aging population
Because truly, no matter how awful a moment might seem, it could always be worse. It’s a reminder to have perspective.
